5. Disapprove. Republican policies on GLBTs and education.....
...plus War Without End. He's Tony Blair.

I'm beginning to think we need three parties.

No, I'll stay a DEM. A third party for the neo-cons and corporationists of the Obama-wing.

68. Third Party: Democratic Wing Of The Democratic Party
Dr. Dean fits the bill just fine. Wes Clark too. I'm sure there are others. Actually, that way, President Obama wouldn't be primaried, since it'd be a different party (than the "Democratic" Party I'm seeing now).

Disapprove of war escalation.

Disapprove of covering up of torture of the previous administration.

Dispprove of continuing our black-op detainment practices in places like Bagram.

Disapprove of lack of government transparency that was promised.

Disapprove of the persistence of the Patriot Act.

Disapprove of a trillion dollar insurance company give away euphemistically called health reform.

I could go on.

I disapprove, and I'm not scared to say so.

I voted for him, and am profoundly disappointed.

103. Me either. While he's done an extraordinary job given the extraordinary mess
he stepped into, he's not proven to be the people's president, as he promised he'd be. If he'd meant what he said about working for the people 24/7, the top priority would be jobs, jobs, jobs, rather than a HIR bill that helps little in the short term.

Don't get me started on the lousy Congress critters on both sides of the aisle, and the messed up Supreme Court. Yeah, we need a 3rd party--a people's party--since the 2 we have now are the other side of the same corporatist coin.

The poll is too limited for me to voice the fact that I neither approve nor disapprove of the president's performance, but I have to agree that he's light years better than the Shrub regime. But one doesn't have to be a saint to be better than them.

17. I voted disapprove.
He has done some good things but I just don't think he's on the side of the People as he claimed he would be. He might want to be but I just don't believe he can be. The people that own this country simply won't allow him to do what is necessary to fix the problems. I don't know that anyone would have the guts to sacrifice him/herself in order to point out the truth and fight, really fight, for the right things. It might be unfair for me to disapprove of the job he's doing because there really isn't anyone who could do it the way it should be done. Such a person would never be allowed near the levers of power and even if they were, the compromised Congress would thwart them at every turn or that person would be killed if he managed to persuade the legislative body to go along with him.

My disapproval is not so much of his job performance but of what this country has become. And like the QB who gets all the blame when the team fails and all the credit when the team wins, President Obama has to take the hit on this.

How does escalating the war in Afghanistan, expanding Bagram (called Obama's Gitmo by the troops), attacking teachers' unions, openly dismissing progressives on Fox News, and doing not a damn thing for LGBT people translate into inspiration? HUH?

to satellite facilities all over Afghanistan and that he's kept a black site open at Bagram. It's harder for the ICRC to monitor him that way.

52. Yes, Bagram is "Obama's Gitmo" because it's the nicest of the sites.
The only real torture is sleep depravation and 24 hour bright lights (NO BIGGEE, RIGHT!!!!) It's for the least important detainees (taxi drivers, street urchins). People don't realize that Gitmo is one of the best sites, not one of the worst.

62. Sorry, I was mixing this thread up with the fawning "Say Something Good About Obama!" thread.
The red-baiting comments of Obama supporters were largely contained in that thread. And HEY IMAGINE THAT-- I respond to someone who posts on a DISCUSSION forum! I doubt the major Obama apologists on the site want to K&R this particular thread. The fact that he's disgusted so many Democrats is probably pretty embarrassing.

Glad you're well-rested.

even in this particular forum that can't trash him enough.

And if you're going to take the time to bore someone with your responses, which you have done seemingly 20 times in this one damn thread, and argue over absolutely NOTHING, could you at least make sure that your comments are relevant to what the person actually posted?

Sounds like someone else could use a bit of rest.

130. If Obama is the best President you've seen -
- in your lifetime, am I correct in guessing you were born in 1980? In which case I agree with you. There is no question that Obama is a better President than Reagan, Bush-1, Clinton and Bush-2, but he still leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

Obama is not a bad President but he could be much, much better if he had the kind of salt it takes. But he is sorely lacking in that department. He wants much too much to be liked.

23. Columbia University history professor Simon Schama barely gives him a pass
Presumably, that would be somewhere in the range of a C.

He also notes: the President has to stop being so bloody nice - or he's a goner.

div class="excerpt"]He ''lost control of the narrative'' and failed to explain to voters the importance of his stimulus package. ''Without it, so many hundreds of thousands of more jobs would have been lost, and the economy would be over - not just on the edge of - a cliff.''

Obama's instinct for consensus has not served him well, Schama says. He needs to be tough, combative, as Franklin Roosevelt was when, in 1936, he defied the captains of industry by saying: ''They are unanimous in their hate for me and I welcome their hatred.''

And Obama needs to do this with the Democrats who will not pass his health reforms without a prohibition on public money for abortions. ''If I was Obama, I'd get those people in and bang their heads together until they bled copiously,'' Schama says.

He expands on this theme at the ABC, while interviewed by Leigh Sales for Lateline. ''Ronald Reagan was a brilliant polemicist but he'd do it with an easy smile. He could deliver a knuckle sandwich with a smile on his face. Jack Kennedy came from a family of political thugs. Lyndon Johnson was a master of the dirtiest political tactics when he had to use them. That's sort of not been Barak Obama's political education. But he better master it quickly, or he's a goner.''

I don't put people on the Ignore list frivolously...usually they have to show a long pattern of hostility to basic democratic (small d) principles—"Party Before Principle" and so on—or they have to say something so asinine that it pretty much renders valueless anything else that might follow it. Ignore for you.

We have a mass of stupid, poorly educated people who believe in magical nonsense and have the right to vote, same as real people, and the have been manipulated for decades for political and financial gain of a few. I believe this can only get worse, but President Obama is at leasttrying to get things done within this dismal system.

88. I can't vote in this poll...
Edited on Fri Mar-19-10 01:47 PM by Mother Of Four
Because I both disapprove and approve.

Approve because the alternative would be unthinkable, McCain/Falin

Disapprove, because I voted for a fighter. I voted for someone who would stand up for us. Voted for a person who knew what our country needed, and was willing to sacrifice himself and his career for it as a one term president to get it. I became an independent because the party I was raised in had warped into something horrible and hateful. I disconnected myself politically from my family, and I was pretty much the first one to do so.

I'm saddened and sick, I'm finding myself posting less and less. Reading less and less. Being quiet instead of speaking up.

The only real ray of sunshine I see on the political front is Grayson, and even with him fighting tooth and nail...he's swimming up-creek.

Living in a small town, I drive down center street and see the failing businesses. I have friends who screen all their calls because they can't pay bills. I'm still waiting for approval from our insurance to be seen by a doctor that can figure out what's going on with me. I look at my son who was injured in Boot camp, came home Jan 29th with jacked up knees, who can't be seen until April.

I guess I'm at the point where I'm no longer naive, politicians (99%) don't give a damn about us. From here on out I guess it's going to be a case of picking the "Best of the worst"

Depressed? Sure as sh*t am, aren't the rest of you?

(Edit: K and R....I want people to see this poll)

Pay no attention to the fact that this is a site primarily of interest to self-identifying Democrats and we are on the verge of what our president is declaring to be a Historic victory. The President is strong, it's his constituency who is weak or radical! What have half of us noticed after a year, that others accept as passing?

In trying to see the approve side, I compare his approach to governance to his campaign, and to that of previous effective leaders and I see wide disparities on both counts. He has allowed lobbyists to run the legislative show, employed secret back room negotiations and with an overwhelming majority didn't aggressively push the Party Platform he campaigned upon and was elected to implement.

I see a new administration seeking advice from the same war advisors and continuing the war in perpetuity approach of the last one. I see an administration ratifying the war crimes of the last one by failing to discharge it's sworn duty to follow laws which demand action on such crimes.

When I compare those shortfalls I have to admit that this president has delivered the absolute minimum we would have expected from any of our choices in the '08 primaries even if they were lying to get our votes too.

But I'm in agreement with the majority of voters in this poll - I don't see why it's close. We can all agree we're polarized.

109. Until recently
I'd have said I approve, if with misgivings. Now, though I'm trying really hard to see the good in this healthcare bill, I'm more on the side of disapprove. Still, I'm going to wait and see whether it passes and if it does, how/if it helps the American populace, before I make a firm decision. If it turns out to be the disaster many here believe it will be, then I'm going to have to say I'll be voting third party in the future. This is our chance for change, for steady (if slow) improvement. I'm holding on to hope for as long as I can. Give us something to be proud of, Mr. President. Show us that our votes meant something, that our support counts for something - that it is possible to make positive change in this Nation.

I won't sit on the fence forever. Soon I'll make a decision. It's hard to have faith in the democrats right now, but I'm hopeful.

Compliments of the Party of NO!. You think it's bad now? You guys had better remember what the alternative would have been. And that is hell on earth. Thank you Obama for even wanting to try to help this ungrateful nation of people who sit on their asses watching the boob tube. They do nothing to help things move in a positive direction. They don't want to get involved or do the work, but they sure don't mind giving their opinions, many of which show their total lack of facts. The past few decades are proof "the dumbing down of America" worked. And now Texas is trying to change and obscure the true history of Texas and America, and let our country go even lower in the rankings. Other countries know more about what's going on here than we do. Talk about propaganda and pure bullshit? Keep watching the FAUX news channel.

However, I see his administration as a slight improvement over the nutso reactionary administrations of Bush.

Not that says much, but I guess if I am gonna get f*cked, I appreciate the use of lube this time around. Gotta see the silver lining somewhere. I can't say that my significant ideological differences with Obama, which were patent from the get go, led my rational side to believe any significant change was going to be effected during his administration(s)... but the naive idealist in me held hope. Lesson learned though... I thought I wasn't going to become such a cynic as such early age. Oh, well... c'est la vie.

*WARS fully funded and EXPANDING. Bill sent to our children…...Mission Accomplished !

*Trillion Dollars given to friends and campaign contributors on Wall Street. No Strings Attached...Mission Accomplished!

*Military Spending INCREASED....Mission Accomplished!

*Trillion+ Dollars given to the Health Insurance Industry. Easily Avoidable, symbolic only strings attached....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Force all Americans to buy invisible products from For Profit Corporations who manufacture nothing and create no (Value Added) wealth..."A Uniquely American Solution"..indeed. .....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Kill the possibility for a REAL "Public Option" or REAL Universal Health Care for at least another generation, and begin the “Entitlement Reform” defunding of Medicare (-$500 Billion)....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Block ANY REAL re-regulation of BIG BANKS and Credit Cards....Mission Accomplished!

*Protect the Bush War Criminals and Torturers from JUSTICE....Mission Accomplished.

*Throw the GBLTs under the bus and expand "faith based" initiatives....Mission Accomplished!

*Reinforce the worst Police State provisions of the Patriot Act and strengthen the Unitary Executive....Mission Accomplished!

*Protect the very richest. Tell the Working Class that they CAN WILL compete with 3rd World Slave Labor for their jobs.....Mission Accomplished!

*EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) killed in the crib....Mission Accomplished!

*More Anti-LABOR "Free Trade"....Mission almost Accomplished!

*Jobless Recovery....Mission Accomplished

*The Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party SHUT OUT of the Obama Administration…...Mission Accomplished!

*Accelerate the destruction of Public Education...Mission Accomplished!

*Bury next generation under such a debt burden that they will never be able to afford any social or economic programs that will benefit their Working Class....Mission Accomplished.

And ALL this in less than a year!!!

The DLC Dream List....Mission Accomplished!
(I wonder if Bush is still using that old banner?)
How can any Red Blooded loyal Centrist (almost Republican) Democrat disapprove of ALL this???

Only a dirty, "fucking Retard", fringe, FDR style pinko "Old Pro-LABOR Democrat" would disapprove.

136. 52% Disapproval to 48% Approval. My, things have changed here.
What's sad is that those of us in the 52% were all such supporters of the President.

I believed him then. Not that much anymore.

That's the consequence of going back on your promises and not keeping your word.

Confidence is something earned.

There's a lesson here in these numbers.

139. I approve of credit Card reform and the Unemployment Benefit extension, the jobs bill,
the stimulus bill and the bailout of the Auto Industry. But I don't approve of most of his other policies. I choose disapprove because I was hoping that he would better on foreign policy(getting us out of Iraq and Afghanistan) and that is why I voted for him.

142. I was inspired by Obama. I traveled to Washington, by myself, slept in
my truck under wool blankets in a parking garage at National's Stadium in 20 degree cold. I then trudged through that cold, along with thousands and thousands of other people, mostly very proud and excited black people whose buses de-boarded at National, who were inspired and full of hope and happy. I was part of probably the largest inauguration crowd in history as I stood under the Washington Monument and listened to the man who had made history. The world was full of promise.

Today, unfortunately, I am profoundly disappointed and I disapprove of the job he's done so far.

Yes, it is. It was my first inauguration and because it was going to be Barack Obama taking the oath, I had to be there no matter what. I still have some hope of a turnaround but I'm skeptical it will happen.

And frittered away the mandate against war and for social justice.

that so many people here on DU absolutely SLAM polls that show that people are unhappy with what Obama is doing by claiming they are all by right-wing pollsters and yet right here...on a supposedly left board THIS poll show DEMOCRATS are unhappy...

is this being done by some right-wing pollster on DU??? perhaps those polls that show high dissatisfaction ratings are right...and if they are the Dems are in deep shit in NOV unless something dramatic changes in the next several months.

share my pizza. That is a big deal. Mostly pizza has to be wrested from me with force by people much bigger than I am. I am Diabetic and it shoots up the blood sugar for some reason. So I eat it sparingly with feral growls and an unspoken refusal to share.
