Proposed New Forum Group: "Socialist Progressives."
Skinner has OK'd new forum group, pending completion of this procedure:

1. Start one discussion thread in the forum of your choice to tell people about your idea for a DU Group.

2. In that thread, you must get responses from at least ten DU members who agree to be active participants in the suggested DU Group. All ten members to respond must have donor stars.

3. In that thread, members must agree on a proposed mission statement for the DU Group.

After this happens, there are other things: emailing skinner, getting final approval, but he seems OK on this so far.

SO. Anyone else with me, or do I have to start playing "The Internationale" non-stop?

My suggestions for a Mission Statement: To link Socialist ideas and suggestions for political change to a Progressive framework, with the end result being positive and forward looking discussion and solidarity.

Or is that just so much bullshit?

1. Hey, I lobbied pretty hard for this...
If only 1% of DU has Socialist leanings, that's 1000 posters. I only need 10 with stars. C'MON.

3. I support such a group..and I have a star..but I do not post very often
I recon I am a voyer..or a reader as I like to call myself. I do not feel I have a lot to offer to the conversation. But I do have a theory that is very socialistic regarding how people should be paid..

I don't post much, mostly read also, but I am definitely interested in a socialist/progressive framework. Maybe I would post more in here than otherwise. I love reading other posts on this subject. So I hope it is a go...

obviously, I don't post much and I don't think I have my star any longer however, this part of the dem party is the only part holding me in the dem party.

I used to think that progressives were the base of the dem party but that was when I was young and new to politics. ;) Silly me.

So, yeah, I like your idea.

Adding to your mission statement: and following events in countries with successful socialist policies.

Also, work in something about Democracy in the title of the forum or the mission statement. Too, too many lurkers won't understand that democracy & socialism go just great together! Like cookies and milk, chocolate and peanut butter!

To link Socialist ideas and suggestions for political change to a Progressive framework in a Democratic Society, with the end result being positive and forward looking discussion and solidarity. We will follow events in countries with successful Socialist Policies with believe will work for the United States.

How about that?

I'll look for comments in an hour or so, then send the thread to Skinner.

50. That's communism
Socialism at it's farthest advocates eliminating private ownership of natural resources. Not the means of production.

The means of production being employee-owned and elections of executives and board members.

In general, the best I could describe a situation where half or even most workers work in co-ops both big and small is some form of market socialism.

I have lots of ideas and would really appreciate some constructive criticism, and who knows, maybe somebody will think they are good ideas.
