Kent Conrad Explains How “Extremists” on the Left are Crippling the Senate
By: Blue Texan Wednesday March 3, 2010 4:45 am

<snip>

This is literally the most nauseating episode of “Punch the Hippies” I’ve ever seen on cable news. Someone might remind Larry and Kent that it’s the “centrists” who are screwing the pooch.

Conservative Democrats are making it very clear that they’ll switch their vote and kill the bill down the line if the public option doesn’t get stripped out of it.

“Let me be perfectly clear,” Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) said on the floor of the Senate. “I am opposed to a new government administered health care plan as a part of comprehensive health insurance reform, and I will not vote in favor of the proposal that has been introduced by Leader Reid as it is written…. I’ve already alerted the Leader and I’m promising my colleagues that I’m prepared to vote against moving to the next stage of consideration as long as a government-run public option is included.”

“Centrists” like Kent Conrad and Blanche Lincoln have been in total control of the Senate for a year. If Conrad doesn’t think they’re getting enough done, it’s on them. They own it.

3. Can we put these cowards on trial for treason and be done with it?
And no, that's not hyperbole either. These warmongering corporatist "centrist" psychopaths are anti-American in every possible way. Fuck them.

5. Those people aren't "centrists", they're corporatists, and no where near
the "center". I've noticed the MSM is conflating centrist with corporatist lately, and that's like saying fascism is middle of the road or Hitler was the average guy. Fascism is not the norm. Don't let them trick you into buying it.

10. Like trying to swat back the ocean with a baseball bat is the Modern Bushiganda State

Unbelievable.

If there's anything the last 40 years teach us, and especially the last 10 years, it is how delicate the processes are of civilized society, and how easily and swiftly they can be destroyed.

6000 years of recorded human history, and it's still the same shit over and over and over again.

Now we reside in a time when Bushiganda is all we can see anymore. Orwell would be horrified. His dystopian vision has in many ways come to pass.

8. What, does he think anyone to his left is an extremist?
I mean I'm a brainwashed, communist, healthcare-loving, gay-marriage-supporting, Canadian so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but there aren't many US Senators that I think of as being on the left, let alone the "extreme" left.

Conrad's positions on most issues put him to the right of our Conservative Party.

11. "extremist" = "beyond the pale of civilization" and "you don't have to listen to them"
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 03:07 PM by MisterP
it means that the person or idea in question is so unAmerican--and thus opposed by all right-thinking Americans--that they have no rights to debate or be heard (or for a fair trial). it's part of the 50s Daniel Boorstin-Daniel Bell-Richard Hofstadter-Arthur Schlesinger consensus that erased history before 1949, especially labor activism and the CPUSA's Marxist critique, strong showing, and internationalist allure (Abraham Lincoln Brigades, etc.). this same ideology blames Hitler's rise on Thalmann--while protecting the centrist (and thus level-headed and conscientious) Papen who actually appointed him.

it's the same thinking that makes centrists bleat that "the opposite ends of the spectrum have more to do with one another than with the Golden Mean: they're violent and intolerant": but note that it was the "centrist" Democrats who voted for the IWR (and vomited excuses that it was a good law, or that it didn't actually authorize the invasion, when their first Messiah, the center-liberal John Kerry, ran), siding with the imperialists and bloodless resource warriors and End Times crackheads and culture clashers. but then again, the moderates would probably tell us that Iraq is a good war, because the papers aren't reporting US or Iraqi deaths, and they have satellites, and can join the neoliberal global democracy that will sweep away their presumed xenophobia and make them turn their oil over to the multinats.

17. Extremists on the left - as in WHO?
I didn't think there was one person in the senate who could remotely be called a left-wing extremist. Quite a few right-wing extremists, however.

“I am opposed to a new government administered health care plan as a part of comprehensive health insurance reform...I’m promising my colleagues that I’m prepared to vote against moving to the next stage of consideration as long as a government-run public option is included"

Wow. This 'Democrat' would make the Thatcher Tories practically look like raving socialists in comparison.
