Michael Moore: Democrats are a bunch of wusses...Its disgusting... Im sick of them

Just over a year ago, Michael Moore vigorously campaigned for President Obama and the Democratic Party. But watching them jettison the public option from health care legislation appears to have been the final straw.

"These Democrats are a bunch of wusses," Moore told Raw Story in a hard-edged interview Wednesday. "They don't have the courage of their convictions. They won't stand and fight."

Health care is a uniquely important issue for the liberal filmmaker, whose 2007 documentary "Sicko" explored the heartbreaks and inequities in the US health care industry. He says he's fed up with the Democrats' reticence to take on insurance companies.

"It's embarrassing, it's disgusting and I won't have it anymore," he told Raw Story, mocking them in a baby's voice. "I'm sick of them."

1. I think the problem really is that they're too tied to corporate money
and that can only be fixed for real by having publicly financed elections.

6. True. I agree w/many of Moore's views, but he's grounded in that Don't-Go-Too-Far approach
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 09:38 AM by Echo In Light
... re objective analysis of the phony two party system. For those types, it isn't a matter of institutional collusion, but of supposed cowardice ... just as, again, for those types, Bush/Cheney HAD to be "incompetent," b/c that is perceived by them as being a more socially acceptable form of 'criticism' - as opposed to being accurate and honest, and applying far worse charges/terms/motives to their movement that tread into the murky waters of dreaded Conspiracy Theory, something that the 'moderate' personality type has been conditioned to vilify and disavow.

94. among the Blue Dogs yes.
But the progressive caucus fights the blue dogs as much as they fight the Repukes.. If the Progressive caucus had 220 votes in the House, which they almost do, and 60 Progressive Senators things would be different..
.Obama, I hope his days as a community organizer, made him to naive as to the good faith of all people.. A majority of politicians are bought and paid for, especially the Repukes... About time Moore realized the likes of Alan Grayson, Anthony Weiner, Dennis Kucinich, Russell Feingold represent the majority of the Democratic party.. Dissing all Democrats as if we are all like the Blue Dogs does a disservice to the vast majority of Democrats who are progressives.

49. Not what my Senator's chief of staff says. Blame is placed on one man.
President Obama doesn't just stick his nose in national politics, he also meddles with state politics. Being head of the party, a very persuasive argument can be made that he has earned the right and it's tradition, I guess, but I am still learning about the process.

President Obama has been leaning hard on Harry Reid and anyone who wants to scapegoat him needs to realize Obama is exercising his agendas on the Senate.

Rahm To Reid: Give Lieberman What He Wants

Obama administration officials were not pleased when word leaked out earlier today that the White House was leaning on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to cut a deal with Joe Lieberman on a public option alternative--and they gave their counterparts on the other end of Pennsylvania Ave. an earful about it. But in the end, sources are unanimous: The White House wants Reid to hand Joe Lieberman the farm.

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/12/rahm-to-reid-give-lieberman-what-he-wants.php

I'd be all over Reid's case if I didn't believe what I have read and what my Senator's CoS told me and my Senator is part of Senate leadership.

91. Maybe Reid should stick to his guns and say
"Sorry Barack but I am not peddling the shit you want me to."

And maybe he could tell people that this is what Obama said.

We need some decent leadership, and with the exception of one Senator and maybe eighty Congress people, we don't have it.

And the Senator is not a Democrat: it's Sanders of VT, an independent.

47. I think Michael
has done his part in trying to educate Americans about their political and economic system....but most americans are lazy, willfully ignorant, greedy, selfish, etc.

They sit on their sofas and watch Idol or watch pron on their laptops.

The solution is for people to assume their power....but I guess they're too tired, too scared, too dumb or too whatever.

I am pretty disgusted with my fellow americans who have told me that I'm crazy. The other thing I hear is 'Who do you think you are?' Just for telling them about their country's politics and economy.

Nope....let 'em learn the hard way. I'm going recluse/hermit.

98. You Know femrap... There Are MORE Days I Feel Like You Do Than Not...
There WAS a time when I stood and fought and fought and fought, but now I'm SICK and TIRED of feeling like a "lone wolf" when it comes to far to many fellow citizens!

HOWEVER, Obama has NOT been a good leader IMO, he has seemed overly conciliatory and it also has made him look weak to me. And I'm beginning to see MSM pick up on this much more!! His call about HCR sounds like he's drawing a line in the sand, but this is after giving away too much to Big Pharma, and Health Insurance Companies!

So it's a start, but NAFTA was supposed to be a start too... and LOOK HOW WELL THAT HAS WORKED!! They said they would re-visit, but have YET to do so! What makes ANYONE think HCR is going to be re-visited any time soon??

Frustration abounds, and I COMPLETELY understand where Moore is coming from! He's done a LOT of homework and made some fabulous movies about what is going on, can't take that away from him! I don't think anyone can argue he hasn't. Perhaps if he looked like Brad Pitt he would sell much better, but he doesn't... still I side with Moore and applaud his efforts!

100. Usually I get responses
that mock me. I wish I weren't so exhausted and lacking in hope, but reality is reality.

I understand that Mark Twain also became disgusted with his fellow citizens...he cared too much and eventually all that caring turned to dust.

I will continue to take pleasure in the joys of life...Mother Nature and her beauty and the kindness and companionship of animals. And sometimes one finds a human who understands.

Take care!

Michael Moore rocks!

102. Thanks For the Reply... I Have My Squirrels To Keep Me Happy Almost
every day. Having raised so many they give me immense joy and I LOVE watching them after I feed them a daily does of nuts, etc. Plus I have 2 chocolate labs that are my children as well. I have always loved playing tennis and staying active outdoors, but had a bad accident and my back has been compromised and made it unable for me to play my favorite game!

But I understand where you're coming from, still politics is my addiction even when I know it's become much too stressful! So much so that it has kept me awake at nights! I'm aware what I SHOULD do about it, but like an alcoholic I keep reaching for my "fix!"

Given where I live, there are many outlets for me! I live very close to the Gulf of Mexico, I can ride a bike up the road and plop myself on the sand, and I have put that on my "bucket list" of sorts. I just need to follow through! I MUST realize I no longer can make that much difference and all my complaints and anxieties aren't doing much good anyway!

And yes, Michael Moore is ONE of the GOOD ONES, and one who has been in the trenches and worked harder than many!

103. I live up north in Ohio and have
been feeding the squirrels and birds all winter. Just yesterday two squirrels were frolicking about in a romantic way and I declared: Spring has sprung. A few robins have shown up as well.

I, too, am addicted to Politics. I simply have to know what is going on so I can plan accordingly. Even as a kid in the 2nd grade, I campaigned for Kennedy! My best friend and I got into fights...she was for Nixon. I remember election night and begging to stay up for the results.

I wish I had a body of water nearby...I used to live in San Fran Bay Area and the Pacific Ocean was such a source of relief and energy.

I have a 17 year-old cat, Joe, named after Joe Montana. I don't care for football anymore but those days of w/ Joe and the 49ers were fun.

My love was dance...but bad knees allow only careful dancing. But I powerwalk which feels great.

Enjoy your trip to the beach!

104. Well My Addiction Began When I Was 11 & As a Boomer I've Seen
some very heady times. Obviously I'm older than you, but SALT WATER is VERY comforting for many things that ail you!!

We've had the COLDEST winter since '81 down here, and I SERIOUSLY doubt I could even MANAGE an Ohio winter!!

I DID manage a trip to San Fran last year and LOVED it! Even though we didn't plan it around the Iraq War Demonstration, it just so happened that there was a March at that time! Given where I live and how RED this place is, it was INVIGORATING to be among SOOOOOOOOOOOO many like minded people who marched! A big march here would consist of maybe 100 people, 200 if it was something serious!

I LOVED my walk across the Golden Gate Bridge though... had a brace on my one knee because of a torn meniscus and took a couple of prescribed pain meds and did very well!! Now those HILLS, I did attempt them three or four times and said ENOUGH! But we did walk from downtown all the way to PCH! Now, I'm NOT trying to put CA beaches down, but where I live... this county has the WHITEST beaches in the world, and I was shocked at how gray/brown the sand was at PCH!

But I'd go back in a nanno!! If the economy ever recovers enough, it's a trip to Oregon for me!! Don't know why, but the place looks BEAUTIFUL! Never been to Ohio, but had a friend from up there and there's some very nice scenery there too, and some GREAT food from what she's told me!

Sorry, got so off topic here... but my squirrels have been around all winter, but it's Florida and I've really spoiled them! Good luck with your budding Spring! It's still cold here today for us, but it's really Spring. I think it's about 65, but 75 will be here this week-end!

That wasn't nice of me now was it?? But our summers ARE BRUTAL!

107. Actually this winter wasn't so bad.....
imho. Lots of snow...a record in fact. But it came in phases so when the snow started to look dirty, another layer would appear. At night everything was so bright because of white ground covering. It didn't go below 20 degrees too often. That's when I get cold.

And since it's an election year, the roads were cleared in a timely fashion so I didn't feel inconvenienced at all. But my car is sooooooo dirty.

I'm hot blooded so summer is tough on me.

I don't know why anyone would like the food in Ohio...lots of corn and good garden veggies in the summer. Lots of restaurant chains...ugh. I rarely go out to eat...even the Chinese restaurants have been Americanized for Midwest folks. The only pretty part of Ohio is the Southeastern hilly area...and maybe Cincinnati. Otherwise, pretty flat. Fall is pretty...especially when there has been a rainy summer.

I was surprised by the beaches in CA as well. My aunt lives in Orlando so I'd go down there for spring break and head to Daytona. I loved that beach. CA's coast is more rocky and rugged...and designed for those who don't like suntans...or sunburns, in my case.

San Fran was fabulous...never cold, rarely hot. I was very lucky to be there during the Raygun and Bush years. Otherwise, I might have gone nuts.

I guess I'm a later Baby Boomer....born in 1953. And I loved the '60's. I miss them.

112. I Miss The 60's & 70's Too! Guess My Friend Likes Ohio Better Than You!
And while I melt during the summers here, would rather be here than there. Living on the west coast is preferable than the east coast, at least for me.

Politics here suck, but I LOVE my little community which has some VERY GOOD Democratic neighbors. Our little pocket is amazingly Democratic... go a little further North down South, fugeddaboudit!! It's so horribly RED and even MOST Democrats would be considered DLC types.

While I worked with them a lot, I've had to stop for the most part because I'm more to the left and what I brought to the table was weird to them. They wanted my volunteerism, but NONE of my ideas!

But, living so close to the Gulf and not in huge homes that are all around us, we are a close knot group of middle class people who are trying hard to get by, some have lost their homes, but for the most part many have been here 20 years or more, and most of us are of the same age group who lend a hand when needed. I'm thankful that we bought our home 24 years ago and can KEEP it! Or so it seems unless something HORRIBLE HORRIBLE happens, but "most" of us here are doing okay, even though there have been some foreclosures! Florida has been hit very hard, and a good friend of mine just DUMPED a very large home that they put about $100.000.00 into for about $175,000.00! They paid $300,000.00 for it and he decided to open a Ci-Ci's franchise and it was PURE bad timing!

But they are doing okay, her mother passed away and left them her house, but they moved away from here which distressed them because they LOVED it here!

Enough... take care!!

and then there's a group who just want to 'win' like politics is some sort of football game so they accept anyone who will put a 'D' after their name. So I guess I'm more issue/policy oriented now.

Ohio was hit years ago before this 2008 crash. The people are beaten down, imho.

I believe I read that FL's unemployment was around 14%. Nevada, Arizona, and CA...very sad. But Michigan and Ohio have been dealing with a Recession/Depression for years. MI has more oomph...trying to get the filming industry located there which I think is a super idea.

Ohio hasn't had an original thought in years. I've written the Gov. about Industrial Hemp...but to no avail. I guess we will now discuss Medical Marijuana. But Hemp could be a huge industry. After all Ohio is 55% agriculture. Gotta keep growing all the 'corn fructose syrup.'

Have a great weekend! We finally have sun!

106. I was just reading about about Mark Twain.
He has been one of my favorite authors since I was just a kid.

I picked up a biography of Alice Roosevelt, Teddy's daughter. In it, she explains how she wasn't allowed to read "Little Women" because the writing in that book was considered so poorly done.

MArk Twain was criticized too. He was, after all, one of the middling class, and hardly one to instruct the blue bloods on how to live their lives.

But his tales had so much humor, and his truths were so awesome, that the blue bloods of that era still read him. Perhaps secretly, but he had a way of getting them to want his message.

him. What idiots. Rich people are truly ignorant. I always thought that George Carlin was my generation's Mark Twain.

I thought it would be against the law to insult Mark Twain. What could possibly be wrong with him?

Blue Bloods...are they called that because they're 'alien'.... they're so cold emotionally that their blood isn't red.

had a good time dissing a lot of people.

Eleanor Roosevelt was just too "goody goody" for her taste.

Though she herself did admit to liking Twain. But apparently it was something she kept to herself until way after the Victorian age ended.

52. How many times are you going to be like Charlie Brown, run up to kick the
football held by the Democrats, and watch them snatch it away so you fall on your ass?

Yeah, Obama won. No one was happier than me, then. Today, whoop-dee-doo! And I mean that in the best sense of the word.

Frankly, what I'd love to see is Michael Moore make a movie called "The Audacity of Betrayal", starring you guessed it - the 2012 lesser of two evils. It would show, in all of it's ugliness, the increasing chasm between Obama's words and actions. Maybe Obama would explain what happened to his campaign message, and why he's chosen to let the hard-working people who put him there down. Or why he abandoned the needs of the American people and champions multi-national craporations, in effect screwing the Democratic Party for decades. Maybe it would even result in his finally growing a pair. Clearly, nothing else has worked.

114. Rather than agreeing to disagree, I'd love to hear your ideas as to how to
see our hope turned into real change. IMO, voting for Nader and voting for Obama again, in 2012, would be equally futile.

As good a guy as Obama is, and I believe he has a good heart and wants to do the right thing, the end result is the same. We don't have a voice. Well, you may. Are you a multimillionaire or billionaire?

Seriously still blaming Nader? I assume next time people should check with the DLC before exercising their constitutional right to run for office. Because there is nothing more democratic than feeling entitled to other people's votes and blame on those exercising their right to run for office for your very own electoral blunders.

15. 2010 Elections
Edited on Wed Mar-03-10 09:49 AM by 90-percent
If our government is of, for and by the corporations NOW, imagine what the political landscape will be like after the anything goes corporate spending bonanza is enacted this November.

To me, the 2010 Election will be the end of our experiment in democracy, thanks to the recent Supreme Court ruling.

We will all be serfs owned by corporations. Future laws will benefit corporations at the expense of all voters. Our votes will now become even more meaningless.

29. No, Michael, Tell the Truth.
The Blue Dog - DLC Dems join with their Republican co-conspirators to trash health care reform -- and all other progressive moves -- because they are all bought and paid for by the corporations whose sole concern is increasing their profits. The Obama election has turned out to be the greatest charade in American history: promise the voters real reform, give them more corporate-controlled governance. Obama has been bought by the financial industry and other big corporations. He carries out their policies, not his election promises. It is a tragedy that such a brilliant, articulate and charismatic man has been turned into the chief salesman for corporate policies.

The motive force behind our capitalist economic system is the drive to endlessly increase profits for the CEO's who make their money by increasing their profit margins and thus their stock prices and their bonuses. They insure their perpetual dominance by using a fraction of their profits to buy our politicians, who then allow the corporations to write legislation that favors their profits: health care for all does not increase their profits, so they oppose it.

The only solution to the ever-deepening corruption in this country to is throw out the capitalist economic system and create an economic system that puts human needs, not profits, as its first priority.

30. I'd call Moore on it, and tell him....
OK, if you think they're such a bunch of wusses, then you put your ass, your money, your dignity AND your safety on the line and run for office. And if you win, then let's see how much you really accomplish in office. If he says no, then ask him, "If Al Franken can do it, why not you?"

Then the other question I would ask him is "If Progressives in Hollywood are so politically committed, then historically, why is it only Republicans from Hollywood running for office and winning?"

Moore has run for and won elected office before. How does your comment differ from a big STFU. You seem to imply that exercising responsibility as a citizen is less valuable when not running for office. And obviously one cannot make a significant contribution to society or the future without being in elected office. Poppycock.

The bad guys have posted his address, his phone number, info on his kids, photos of his house, and all kinds of other personal info that makes it easy to locate him. He's had death threats, his employees have even been given a hard time by some of these whack-jobs. The same whack-jobs you see at the teabagger gatherings and calling in to glenn beck and limbaugh. They get stirred up and some of them intend to do real harm in their extreme reactions. Examples: Timothy McVeigh. And that guy who just flew his plane into the IRS building after leaving a long, rambling, anti-government manifesto behind. That side tends to be more gun-loving and enamored of the lone cowboy/avenger/underdog-against-"The Man" myth.

He spent the last three weeks of that campaign BEGGING Ralph to get out of the race. Wasn't that enough?

It's not Michael's fault that Nader was stubborn.

And when are people like you going to admit that it was THIS party's fault that the Nader campaigns happened?

It was the DLC that elected Bush, not Michael Moore.
