Bush's abstinence chief busted for prostitution
http://www.slate.com/id/2165259/?nav=fix

ABC News and the Washington Post are reporting that Deputy Secretary of State Randall Tobias resigned April 27 after confirming to ABC News that he's on Jeane Palfrey's little list. Palfrey is a D.C. madam under prosecution who's been negotiating with lawyers for various prominent johns over whether to release their names to the public. Tobias is administrator of the State Department's foreign aid programs.
<...>
Tobias is the Bush administration's leading advocate of abstinence-only programs abroad.

Here's what Tobias told PBS' Frontline...:

Well, the heart of our prevention programs is what's known as ABC: abstinence, be faithful, and the correct and consistent use of condoms when appropriate. This is not an American invention; this is something that President Museveni in Uganda figured out over time when he recognized that there was an enormous problem in Uganda.

And it's also not "ABC: Take your pick." It's abstinence really focused heavily on young people and getting them to understand that the best way to keep from getting infected is to be abstinent and not engage in sexual activity until they are old enough and mature enough and get into a committed relationship, such as a marriage.

And the simple people of the country will not go past the headline.

11. more on Tobias' "women as pizza" comment
from the OP's link:

quoting Tobias:

They just have no idea about that. In some countries in Africa, it's well above 50 percent that are women and girls. In many cases this is driven by cultural factors, where young girls are having sex with older men and coerced to do that, where women aren't regarded as equal citizens with men. So there are lots of things that need to be done addressing those kinds of cultural issues also.

we just had a big fight in the legislature over "abstinence-only" versus "abstinence plus" in public school curriculum. I wish this had come out earlier - would have been an amazing counterpoint to the fundie position here. Ha!

BTW, abstinence plus won the day.

16. Here are the quotes from ABC...
A senior Bush Administration official, Deputy Secretary of State Randall L. Tobias, who "was criticized by some for emphasizing faithfulness and abstinence over condom use to prevent the spread of AIDS" recently resigned "one day after confirming to ABC News that he had been a customer of a Washington, D.C. escort service whose owner has been charged by federal prosecutors with running a prostitution operation."

23. The brilliant Dr. Rice (his superior) has an uncanny grasp on the roles Randy plays
At an April 18 speech, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice praised Tobias' work. "Randy Tobias has indeed had many roles in his life, but none more important than the roles he's played in government, where he has been someone who has been most involved in organizing America's compassion to the world."

That's it. America's compassion to the world. Randy's role in it. Those "Central American girls" are part of his research to help spread that compassion.

50. I reeelly hope the true irony and hypocrisy of the story will be noted at some point
by the Corporate Media whores -- compelled, as usual, to "dig deeper" and tell the "whole truth" (or at least more of the truth than they wanted to reveal) by the alternate media and other folks who are actually awake!

I've been reading articles for over a year, at the very least, about sex scandals these Bu$h criminals are involved in, though of course most Americans aren't aware of them because the CM doesn't inform them.

I figure someday one of the many dirty secrets this maladministration is known for -- you know, historically -- will be the hypocrisy of their public stands on sexual issues.

Something like this, maybe:

"All the while the Bush administration officials were proclaiming that 'abstinence is best,' many of them were engaging in illicit sex in one form or the other. Their hypocrisy on this issue alone reached monumental proportions before the entire lot of crooks and creeps left office forever. Of course, other people a lot more decent than the Bu$h officials were left to pick up the pieces of America's broken legislative structure, in this as in all other respects."

I first heard of Tobias' resignation on NPR yesterday morning, but I don't recall hearing one word about the hypocrisy aspect. That's another of the results of Bu$hCo's corrupting of every institution and organization they could get their nasty hands on -- the gutting of NPR and PBS.

It's like they are doing everything they can to defile as many areas of American life and law as they can before they are fully exposed and thrown out on their sorry asses.

I hope their sorry hypocritical asses end up, when all is said and done, in prison, where they belong!

64. Thanks, Blondie; and yes, I've wondered about the details of the Jeff Gannon story, too.
Truth is, I had never even heard the name Jeff Gannon until I joined DU a couple of years ago!

And I'm a pretty well-informed citizen, in general, so I knew right off that most of us were in the dark completely about this Gannon story. I know that every time I mention it to people I encounter, they don't have a clue what I'm talking about -- and some seem to think I'm making it up.

Maybe that sorry tale, too, will one day be known to all, in its full nasty detail.

If I could write a one-line summary of the Bu$h maladministration, I think it would run something like this:

"Lies, Hypocrisy and War Profiteering -- hallmarks of the administration that was supposed to 'restore dignity to the White House.'"

I hope whatever comes next, we the people can at least lift our heads a bit, after feeling we should hang them in shame and embarrassment for all these years....

This country is full of them. They love to dictate moral behavior to the rest of us, but don't DARE expect them to live up to the codes they establish for the rest of us. What a fucking disgusting bunch of lowlifes. I hope we not only take the presidency in 2008, but both houses of Congress by huge margins. Maybe then we can clean things up. Obviously, the longer Republics are in power, the worse things get for the rest of us, and the more corruption we uncover.
