Slam Dunked a Radio Talk Show Host This Morning..

This morning while driving in to work in Minneapolis one of the radio station who has a PSA type talk show had as a guest the head of the National Weather Service for the midwest region as a guest.....as the conversation went on they were talking about the annual Red River floods in North Dakota....in the interview the host told the guest that the government has the resposibility to make sure that people are protected against this and every effort is made to see that collateral damage is kept to a minimum...

This host a few weeks ago said the government has no BIZ being involved in peoples healthcare....SO!!!.. I pulled off the road got on my cell phone and called up when the lines opened up and got on and reminded him and got him to confirmed his previous remarks....THEN...I asked him how is it you think the government should be reponsible for annually repairing the same home over and over again....he said because we have no control over the weather...I SAID...do we have control over if we get cancer....lukeimaia....parkinsons????....WITH prevention he said YES....I said then people can relocate their homes and BIZ then RIGHT!!! and not be a burden to the government every year??...correct......I closed by saying its a matter of prioritys and your hypocracy does nothing to help the discussion...

I blindsided him....they took a 4 minute commercial break to the top of the hour...

many folks get flooded by the Rock and Mississipi Rivers over and over again and STILL get FEMA funds to rebuild. I am sorry for their loss; HOWEVER, once is enough, IMVHO.

Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 11:19 PM by truedelphi
After Katrina, NPR went off to talk to some people from New Orleans who were being re-located to Colorado.

They all had tremendous ties to N.O.,. but their jobs as chefs and food workers allowed them to get work in a beautiful area of Colorado.

When the radio interviewer asked them how soon they would be going back, not one of the group was willing to go back. They liked living in an area that was equally intersting, and at higher elevation.

Here ya go..

<snip>
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), some 10 million people in the U.S. currently live on flood plains.
<snip>

http://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/20-developers-build-on-flood-plains-at-taxpayers-expense/

We have towns that have been built in flood plains, homes built on cliffs that get taken out every several years etc...there have been cases where entire towns have been relocated to get moved out of a flood plain.

11. A roofer listens to his heart; not his wallet.
Dante: All right, so even if independent contractors are working on the Death Star, why are you uneasy with its destruction?

Randal: All those innocent contractors hired to do a job were killed- casualties of a war they had nothing to do with. (notices Dante's confusion)
All right, look-you're a roofer, and some juicy government contract comes your way; you got the wife and kids and the two-story in suburbia-this is a government contract, which means all sorts of benefits. All of a sudden these left-wing militants blast you with lasers and wipe out everyone within a three-mile radius. You didn't ask for that. You have no personal politics. You're just trying to scrape out a living.

Blue-Collar Man: Excuse me. I don't mean to interrupt, but what were you talking about?

Randal: The ending of Return of the Jedi.

Dante: My friend is trying to convince me that any contractors working on the uncompleted Death Star were innocent victims when the space station was destroyed by the rebels.

Blue-Collar Man: Well, I'm a contractor myself. I'm a roofer... (digs into pocket and produces business card) Dunn and Reddy Home Improvements. And speaking as a roofer, I can say that a roofer's personal politics come heavily into play when choosing jobs.

Randal: Like when?

Blue-Collar Man: Three months ago I was offered a job up in the hills. A beautiful house with tons of property. It was a simple reshingling job, but I was told that if it was finished within a day, my price would be doubled. Then I realized whose house it was.

Dante: Whose house was it?

Blue-Collar Man: Dominick Bambino's.

Randal: "Babyface" Bambino? The gangster?

Blue-Collar Man: The same. The money was right, but the risk was too big. I knew who he was, and based on that, I passed the job on to a friend of mine.

Dante: Based on personal politics.

Blue-Collar Man: Right. And that week, the Foresci family put a hit on Babyface's house. My friend was shot and killed. He wasn't even finished shingling.

Randal: No way!

Blue-Collar Man: (paying for coffee) I'm alive because I knew there were risks involved taking on that particular client. My friend wasn't so lucky. (pauses to reflect) You know, any contractor willing to work on that Death Star knew the risks. If they were killed, it was their own fault. A roofer listens to this... (taps his heart) not his wallet.

When MY house gets flooded, it is no longer Socializm when I take Gubbamint money.

Same applies whenever YOU get sick...it's YOUR problem.

When I get sick, the Gubbamint better step in and help me pay for it.

14. www.angrytownhall.com
and on FaceBook: 1 Million Strong against our Socialist Fire Departments http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=111256528714

Absolutely brilliant observations from the Fan Page:

"The liberal, socialist groups want you to fear fire and want you to believe your only choice is for big brother to come and rescue you. What they don't want you to know is you are free to build your home out of non-flammable materials or surround your house with a moat. You are even free to let it burn and build another in its place or perhaps in a location with a better view overlooking your vineyards. Don't be intimidated by these thugs in red!"

"why should we have to pay to keep other peoples' houses from burning down? most americans are perfectly content with their own houses that are currently not on fire."

"I am sick and tired of my taxes paying for the inability of other people to keep their homes from burning down"

The poorer our educational system gets, the more religiously insane and distrustful toward scientific fact, the more those sorts of beliefs will prevail. We can't allow them to get away with the same old "blame the victim" bullshit.

The Prevenative Principle followed by European nations.

In Europe, there is none of this "We corporations can foist our products on you and tell you they are safe until twenty years from now when we realize they aren't."

In Europe, the proof of a product's safety has to be proven BEFORE the product is out there for the public.

Which is why Europeans do not accept the import of our GMO altered foods and seeds. They still have indie scientists who know these foods are not safe.

because he gets paid to have his opinion. It's his job to say crazy things to get people like you worked up and he gets paid probably $45,000/year to do so.

You lost because you fell for his bait and got worked up and called in to argue with him. Really you lose for keeping him in business in the first place by even listening to him, let alone for taking him seriously.

Something Rush does is he mutes the caller and responds. The caller might make great points and doesn't realize his points are not being broadcast. I don't know how many RW radio hosts do this; but I always wonder.

Great call- either way.
