I was shocked to learn that Michael Kelly is dead

I started reading a new website called "How we got there," recounting the embarassing media behavior that led to Bush's "victory" in 2000. Bob Somerby, website creator, reminded us how Gore warned us in 2002 not to go to war with Iraq. In response to Gore's advice, Washington Post journalist Michael Kelly pounced:

KELLY, WASHINGTON POST, SEPT. 25, 2002: Gore's speech was one no decent politician could have delivered. It was dishonest, cheap, low. It was hollow. It was bereft of policy, of solutions, of constructive ideas, very nearly of facts–bereft of anything other than taunts and jibes and embarrassingly obvious lies. It was breathtakingly hypocritical, a naked political assault delivered in tones of moral condescension from a man pretending to be superior to mere politics. It was wretched. It was vile. It was contemptible. But I understate.

I immediately set out to email Kelly to rub in his face the fact that Gore was right and he was wrong. Sadly, I found out Kelly had died in Iraq while riding in a vehicle along with a U.S. soldier a month after the war began.

It is very ironic that Gore was simply trying to save hundreds of thousands of lives, including Kelly's.
