Marie Osmond’s son commits suicide
Entertainment Tonight reports teen battled severe depression

By Stephen M. Silverman and Mike Fleeman

Marie Osmond's teenaged son, Michael Blosil, has killed himself by leaping to his death around 9 p.m. Friday in Los Angeles, reports Entertainment Tonight, which quotes Marie's brother, Donny Osmond, as saying, "Please pray for my sister and her family."

According to ET, Michael left a note explaining he intended to end his life after a lengthy battle with severe depression that left him, he said, feeling as if he had no friends and could never fit in.

In 2007, Michael, then 16, entered a rehab facility. His mother said at the time, “My son Michael is an amazing young man, shown through his courage in facing his issues. As his mother, I couldn’t be more proud of him

Depression must be rough. I wonder if he was on meds after treatment.

3. Sad. I loathed Donny and Marie when they were EVERYWHERE, but it's clear they're nice folks.
I wish them both well.

It's unfortunate that the media didn't interview Donny when Michael Jackson died because the fame - and like Jackson - holding up the family when you're 14 years old - almost crushed him. If anyone would understand some of what happened to Jackson, it would have been Osmond.

26. They really are good people....
A friend of mine in college knew them pretty well.

I didn't care for their music but I recognize talent when I see it.

It's a shame that the boy couldn't live with his feeling of deep loneliness.

know Marie as I've not seen many interviews with her.

46. Great point
Why the hell didn't that happen. Thousands of hours of coverage and the person who had a parallel life in the 70s doesn't get interviewed.

48. When you read how Osmond lost hair, couldn't eat, etc. then you see how Jackson
had the same pressures PLUS a completely shitty father....

Osmond was the only guy that got close to what Jackson went through, vis a vis lost childhood, etc.

19. Two of our sons battled teen depression, and thankfully both survived it.
They did have counseling which helped some, but we also found that sincere talks with them helped a lot too..

They are both 30-somethings and have thanked us for helping them put perspective into their teen-lives..and how many things we told them would happen...did!

Like:

Those people you think are so cool, and who treat you like shit sometimes..and make you feel insignificant.. well they are uneasy in their own skin too..and in 10 years, you may have to really have to think hard to even remember some of their names..

Teens think that everyone is judging them and looking at them and laughing at them, but other teens think the same thing about themselves....and everyone's too busy worrying about what everyone thinks about them, to really pay all that much attention to you:)

There are mean people everywhere..in school..in the adult world.. Spend less time fixating on the people who are "mean" to you, and more time with people who are not mean, and the mean ones lose their power..

The years 13-18 are but 7% (using 75 yrs as a basis ) of your life, so just tick them off and get them behind you (if they are painful), and "graduate" to the other 93% of your life that will truly be your own.. we used a "day" as the measure.. 24 hrs = 1440 minutes.. 7% of that is 100 minutes...less than 2 hours..

13. Oh no. I knew he was in rehab. She must be devastated.
She was quite accepting of her gay daughter when people asked her about it awhile ago. I don't really have anything against her other then she and her brothers grew up with one nutty, brainwashing father.

This is so tragic! I'm a huge fan of Donny Osmond, he was my first celebrity "crush" (I'm 52), and I've kept up on the family all these years. I know Marie suffered from depression herself, and was very open about it. What a strong, classy Lady!

I was so proud of how she supported her gay daughter, not an easy road to take in the Mormon Church.

I'll say a prayer for her and her family.

32. Depression is a terrilbe thief
I don't know why I never considered suicide but the thought never crossed my mind. I suffered with severe depression for about twenty years and have really only come out of it in the last few years. But depression can be a horrible thief. It steals your happiness. It isolates you from those who love you and it can steal your life. I am so sorry for Marie Osmond and for Andrew Koenig's family as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families affected by this.
