Another police cover-up is now getting investigated by feds
Edited on Thu Feb-25-10 03:32 PM by alp227
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that US District Judge William Alsup is allowing the mother of Jerry Amaro to sue the city of Oakland, California. Jerry Amaro was arrested on March 23, 2000 on suspicion of buying drugs from undercover officers. Amaro later told two other suspects and members of his family that the cops beat him; he died on April 21 that year. The FBI is conducting its own investigation on whether the police used excessive force. One police officer fabricated a story that gang members killed Amaro in order to avoid accountability, the judge ruled.

Yesterday, a former police lieutenant pled guilty to obstruction of justice in the cover-up of police-involved shootings of civilians trapped on a New Orleans bridge a week after Hurricane Katrina.
