I think it's funny Darrel Issa is trying to blame the current NHTSA people for the failings of the Booshe misAdministration.

3. But the statement ON THE RECORD is the most serious aspect of this recall
The japanese tried to blame CTS when in fact, it had NOTHING to do with CTS and the part they made....

I saw Toyota president Toyoda make his statement before Congress and I could have written it... Even Darrell Issa did not look amused. x(

11. He didn't take full responsibility, he dodged the questions
And he said the company was moving as quickly as possible to repair recalled vehicles. Mr. Inaba said Toyota was installing a new brake system that can override a surging gas pedal on almost all its new vehicles and most of those already on the road.

As the hearing began, Mr. Towns framed its purpose by saying that the committee wanted to know why Toyota’s delayed its response to complaints from customers and why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to not vigorously pursue recalls. And most important, Mr. Towns said, whether Toyotas are safe.

“N.H.T.S.A. failed the taxpayers,” Mr. Towns said, “and Toyota failed their customers.”

In their response, the Toyota executives assured lawmakers that the cars were safe, and agreed, under questioning from Mr. Towns, to extend to drivers in all states a settlement reached earlier in the day in New York with the state attorney general Andrew M. Cuomo. In that settlement, Toyota agreed that it will pick up cars and trucks at the homes of drivers, pay for out-of-pocket transportation costs and offer drivers free rental cars during repairs.

7. The classic American/Japanese communication conflict is glaringly apparent.
The American asks a yes or no question.

The Japanese answers with a rambling explanation.

The American says, "Is that a yes, or a no? I don't understand."

The Japanese answers with another rambling explanation.

---

Japanese culture does not allow them to answer with a simple yes or no in most cases.

It sounds crazy to Americans but it's the foundation of Japanese communication not to force your own view on someone else. You have to allow the listener to come to his own conclusion.

8. Issa is so much slime in a jacket
He just said to Mr. Toyoda that he was sure Toyoda would now like to correct some of Secy LaHood's testimony. Toyoda responded that he didn't know what Isaa was referring to. So then Isaa said that if he would like to correct anything for the record, Toyoda could submit statements.

10. Issa is in between a rock and a hard place, the Country and the House/Senate
is turning against Toyota because of what they have done, and he cannot look like he is pandering to them.

13. He asked the question in a pandering way...
He didn't ask Toyoda *if* he wanted to refute. He presumed that he could and gave him the opportunity that Issa was sure Toyoda wanted. As if the Secy was surely wrong in his facts.

I KNOW that when it's all said and done, you'll eventually depart but not with kind words.
