Take note that I provided examples of two distinct usages for the same simple three letter word.

Without all that fancy apostrophicatin'.

Edited on Wed Feb-24-10 03:02 AM by Blue_In_AK
Already is okay (unless you're saying we're "All ready to go") but "alright" should be "all right." I know this is a word in flux, but you will NEVER catch me typing "alright." It's just WRONG.

26. I have resigned!
Not being perfect at all myself, I have decided to lower my criteria. Language is a living thing to me and it is born, flourishes, dies, mutates, etc.

My new criteria is about understanding what the person who is communicating is trying to relate. That's all I need in order to not become a grammar Nazi.

Context, for the intelligent, conveys enough information to allow the proper receipt of the message. There is no point in being condescending or arguing about these matters in a country that places so little value on education and its standards anyway. If I make a hand sign and you fully understand it, the communication was successful, IMHO.

In fact, we could do better by not being so hygienic about nuances, (and less elitist) if we just focus on the point and its meaning, rather than the technical aspects that were drilled into our heads by the teacher-bots who were guarding the pristine nature of grammar with their virulent prophylactic mentality.

Honestly, why belittle people and insist on their conformity when you see so many obvious and glaring errors in professional arenas like books, magazines and newspaper articles these days?

If you understand what someone has said, that should be enough and it is up to you to infer from the context. If you don't you can always ask easily for clarification. Othwerwise, it's just more divide and conquer mentality and oneupmanship these days ... what with the decline, decay, and whatnot.

And you have omitted a space that belongs just after that same set of parentheses.

I'm the Space Ghost today.

37. While you're at it, its (possessive) it's (contraction for IT IS).
Also, plurals are never formed with an apostrophe. Extra points off for making this error in some but not all of the plurals in a sentence, as in:

The student's had lower grades, but their parent's still bought them cars.
