Advice needed please....
I am thinking of purchasing wholesale socks and selling them at a flea market and then donating any profit to the local food bank/rescue mission. Any ideas? or wholesale info? Thanks.

1. Just give the money to food bank/mission .... skip on putting money into ..
..... something that might go up or down.

Volunteering your time works too.

3. Well, I do give money. But, I also think
socks are freaking expensive and by selling the socks cheaper that retail could also help people in that way.

5. Well, I can see what you're saying.....using the capital that you have to
purchase the "raw material" (socks) and using the PROFIT from selling the socks to donate to the food bank/rescue mission. Therefore, keeping the money generating capital intact.....that's "all good" (whomever said just donate the capital to the food bank isn't very "savvy" as Jack Sparrow would say ;-)

A question: Why socks?

8. Socks are just a thought because ...
the local rescue mission is collecting socks and I was researching prices on cases of socks to buy and donate. Then the light bulb went off. But, i am not the most resourceful or sales savvy kinda person. But I have been wanted to do something more. Just an idea. Also, sock and a necessity and they are kind of pricey at retail value. Thought it could help people in that way to.

13. Yeah, imo, you're thinking correctly!
You've done the research to buy the socks wholesale. Don't just GIVE them to the food bank/rescue mission (and give away the capital, which could help them further down the road).

Even if you sell the socks you bought wholesale for a $0.25 or $0.50 profit per pair and donate THAT to the food bank/rescue mission ~ a little bit given is better than nothing *AND* YOU are learning how to earn greater rewards/profit/benefit for those to whom you want to give to (hope that makes sense).

Not much profit in socks unless you buy cheap, made somewhere they use slave labor place... good luck

best if you could make your own and sell them

Northfield,Vermont is home to Cabot Hosiery

edit to say maybe you should start co-op sock factory :)

7. I just appreciate the concept of
attempting to take your few dollars, grow them into many dollars, and then use that for good. If you are going to do it, I suggest funky socks. Like for local sports teams (such as High School or Jr High teams or community league teams)

12. Many people don't realize the importance of new, clean socks because they've never been homeless.
This is a fairly regular thing for me, because I was on the streets for a while early in my life and someone gave me socks.

Those socks meant everything to me at the time. Those six pairs of white socks got me across the country and I'll never forget the lady that gave them to me, even though I never knew her name.

Since then, almost anytime I buy socks I buy an extra package or two and drop them off.

I like anything that helps folks, but I'm not sure you need to bring capitalism into the process. Take the socks to the shelter, or start a sock donation drive.

But I have to tell you, I really like where your heart is at.

15. Yes, people tend to donate...
their old clothes, but socks and underwear are things that can be donated used and seem to get looked over. Thank you for offering some personal perspective. And about the capitalism, I am not a huge fan of it but, many people that shop at flea markets have lower incomes(I have no scientific proof of this, just from my experiences being poor.) So, therefore offering a cheaper than retail product is another small way to help. However, someone mentioned "slave labor" which kinda worries me. Also, I plan to do both donating the sock and possibly selling the socks. The problem is I am pretty sure there are already vendors that supplement their income by selling such things already, as much as I want to help I would have to undercut them(which since I am not in need for the money would be pretty simple) but I don't want to steal any profits from someone selling for necessity.
