“The White House obviously has a loser mentality"
Robert Gibbs: Public Option Via Reconciliation Can’t Pass Congress
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/health-care/gibbs-public-option-via-reconciliation-cant-pass-congress/

Update: Adam Green, spokesman for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which has been leading the charge, emails over a sharp response:

“The White House obviously has a loser mentality — but America rallies around winners. Polls show that in state after state, voters hate the Senate bill and overwhelmingly want a public option, even if passed with zero Republican votes. More than 50 Senate Democrats and 218 House Democrats were willing to vote for the public option before, and the only way to lose in reconciliation is if losers are leading the fight. That’s why Democrats in Congress should ignore the White House and follow those like Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez who know that the public option is a political and policy winner.”

If Schumer was a leader on public option then why did Bennett and three others start the letter push? Schumer didn't even sign it until he had 'Praise Schumer as public option's savior' articles ready to download FOUR DAYS LATER.

Schumer WANTS healthcare bill to fail to ensure Reid's loss in November because Schumer wants to be majority leader.

I remember people around here pretty universally mocked Freepers for ignoring facts in their kneejerk defense of GW Bush. It was all about supporting the *man* rather than honestly appraising his actions.

Funny how things suddenly become acceptable.

29. Here's where I think the administration is miscalculating -
They seem to think that their opposition in 2012 will be as lightweight as McCain/Palin, and we just don't know that yet.

That is, they seem to feel that on HCR, the progressive base is expendable, and that Republicans won't have any strong candidate in 2012 to vote for who also appeals to independents. So that on balance, the votes will be there for a second term.

But what happens if they are wrong, and the GOP comes up with another Ronald Reagan? No, I can't imagine who that would be, but isn't this a risky game to play?

You should also learn what it means. Saying "empirical observation" is equivalent to saying "an observation I observed".

they would be steamrolling over the Democrats right now with no looking back, but laughing at the Democrats' crying.

If I didn't know better I would now be wishing we had a Democratic president who had better than small majorities in both houses of Congress so they could get things done.
