.Bristol Palin to act on 'American Teenager'
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 03:36 PM by Jefferson23
* Too funny.

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Bristol Palin, the daughter of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, is to star in US television show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," the network confirmed Tuesday.

Palin, whose teenage pregnancy became a talking point during the 2008 White House campaign, will play herself in an episode where she talks about the issues facing young parents.

"I am thrilled to be on this show and to be a part of a program that educates teens and young adults about the consequences of teen pregnancy," Palin, 19, said in a statement released by ABC Family.

The episode will see Palin befriend the show's central character Amy, played by Shailene Woodley, at a music program for teenage mothers in an episode due to air later this year during the show's third season.

"Bristol Palin is the most famous teenage mother in America," executive producer Brenda Hampton said.

"I think she will bring additional attention to the issues facing teen parents that we've been exploring for a couple of seasons now."

Launched in 2008, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," follows the fortunes of a teenager as she copes with an unexpected pregnancy.

9. Please Gawd - can't we get rid of this family?
From 1980 to 2009 (29 years!) all we heard was the name Bush, Bush, Bush. Now it's going to be Palin, Palin, Palin until 2037! Spare us.

12. I posted it due to the hypocrisy behind the action and it also
defines this family and their quest for a fast buck.

Unfortunately the cable station believes that young teens who have become pregnant have greater value in their stories than the scores of teens
who have not become pregnant.

19. Nothing new.. teen pregnancy has always been fodder for movies, stories & tv
The teen who just does well in school & at home does not have the "hook" that makes people want to watch it..

The 'Not So Secret' Life of Bristol Palin

http://www.themudflats.net/2010/02/23/the-not-so-secret-life-of-bristol-palin/

Kids are off limits! Remember?

So, Bristol Palin, one of those Palin children we were all admonished never to talk about because the former VP candidate’s family life was nobody’s damn business, is now going to star in a TV show. Yes, a TV show that can be seen by the whole country by simply pressing a button. It’s called “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Secret? Presumably the creators of the show feel that the more people that watch and talk about this show the better. One button, and Poof! It’s Bristol in our living room.

“Why does anyone even care about this?” Bristol was purported to have cried to her mother over the phone when her pregnancy was discovered during the election cycle of 2008 and became national news. The McCain campaign, in a desperate effort to “legitimize” the unplanned pregnancy, sent an airplane to pluck the baby daddy off a mountain where he was stalking sheep, hose him off and stick him in a new suit for his “we’re getting married” tour on the campaign trail. He wasn’t thrilled, but America was, and that’s all that mattered.

<snip>

The show will feature Bristol Palin as herself, friend to the show’s protagonist who is struggling with teen pregnancy. This brings us back to the whole uncomfortable narrative that nobody really knows how to deal with. It goes something like this:

Nobody should have to go through what I went through. It’s really hard, and I made a bad choice. But, I love my adorable baby and wouldn’t trade him for anything in the world, except I’d do things differently if I knew then what I know now, even though I know that I love my child and wouldn’t trade him for anything except the chance to go back and do it again in which case I wouldn’t ever have had sex. Or a baby. Did you see my People Magazine cover? And have I mentioned that I’m never having sex again because I learned that terrible terrible lesson and that’s the only way to make sure I don’t have another baby I didn’t plan for. Isn’t Tripp just the cutest thing? Gosh I love him.

22. My daughter and I prefer watching Teen Mom
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 11:15 PM by liberal_at_heart
It's real. It shows the real life day to day struggles of real teen moms. I definitely won't be watching Secret Life if Bristol is going to be on it. Another reason I don't like Secret Life is because of that pscho Christian character that thinks she killed her dad because she had sex. I was flipping through the channels last night and landed on Secret Life for about two minutes. Once I heard that Christian character give the girl a lecture about how all pre-marital sex is wrong I turned the channel.
