You could find out what people said later. You're not going to take action at the moment someone says something (well, if you were playing the stock market you might, I suppose). If anything, reflecting on whatever gets said at your leisure is probably a better idea for deciding what you'd like your representatives to do next. It's not even a historic occasion, like Obama's inauguration or something. It seems more like calling in sick to watch the Olympics, as someone suggested above.
