Pawlenty: Like Elin Woods, we should "take a 9-iron and smash the window out of big government."
Republican governor says GOP should take nine iron to government, ‘like Tiger Woods’ wife’

By Raw Story

http://rawstory.com/2010/02/republican-governor-gop-iron-government-like-tiger-woods-wife/

Conservative darling and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty told a conservative crowd in Washington Friday that activists should "smash the window" of big government with a golf club, referring in a joke to Elin Woods, the wife of golf megastar Tiger Woods.

"She said, I've had enough," Pawlenty said. "We should take a page out of her playbook and take a 9-iron and smash the window out of big government."

Woods' wife reportedly used a nine-iron to take out the window of an SUV Tiger was driving prior to a crash.

Pawlenty also said the US was "on rhetorical bended knee" for China, and that the US should dramatically cut spending to bring its financial house in order.

"The United States of America is not a beggar nation," he said.

4. That's one of the main arguments against the so-called "Fair Tax"...
...what used to be called "The National Sales Tax." Advocates dangle the carrot of "ABOLISH THE IRS!"...

...problem is, the government would still need to generate the same amount of revenue without the IRS as they did with it, and the plethora of loopholes and opportunities to game the system in "The Fair Tax" doesn't add up to a program that would regulate itself.

The GOP loves to continually whip out this tired old "Stick it to the MAN" rhetoric, and the segment of the American public responsive to that kind of chest-beating loves it, without realizing that the GOP is "the man."

As cartoon character Pogo once famously said, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

13. Come Again?
What loopholes in the Fair Tax? I don't know of any loopholes
in the Fair Tax. Have you read anything about it? Do you
know how it works?

16. What Do You Want To Know
There's a lot to know, but basically, the Fair Tax is a tax on
new products and services sold at retail, save tuition.
There's a "prebate" that keeps poor people from
paying a dime of Fair Tax, and it will hit imports harder than
it hits domestic products, thus creating a favorable
manufacturing environment so as to increase the jobs available
in this country, as opposed to the current situation that
ships jobs overseas.

I just can't get any sort of loophole out of that.

3. "The United States of America is not a beggar nation"
Unless one happens to have cut the budget for inspection of superstructures in one's state, and then let's say...a bridge collapses and kills thirteen people because one's Department of Transportation didn't properly inspect said bridge.

Then it's perfectly fine to go crying to "big government" and receive money to replace said bridge.

Shut up, Tim.

5. I posted this yesterday. What an irresponsible statement!
It seems he's trying to be controversial like Bachmann and Palin just to get some press.

He doesn't have a chance at Pres. It's funny too (also) because he stepped aside for the RNC when it was his "turn" to run for senator. They wanted Norm to run. (or was it gov)

6. Put your money where your mouth is, Timmy!!
And donate your governor's salary back to the state of MN.

"Big government" of course meaning anything they term socialism, except bailing out corporations, permitting loopholes to remain in the tax code to help businesses (including foreign based) avoid paying any taxes, and last, but certainly not least, defense spending!!

"The USA is not a beggar nation" but you and your RW cronies would happily continue to make beggars out of 90% of its population.

8. Another Bridge Collapse or Three AND...
Another Minnesota bridge collapse or two, particularly with injuries or fatalities, and Timmy Pawlenty's presidential ambitions would take a very, very serious blow.

In a sane country and with a sane news media, news analysts would be discussing with grave concern the Radical Right's ambition to turn the USA into the first among Third World nations. Unfortunately, we have a large block of unthinking, ill-informed voters and a corporate media that thinks that "unbiased" journalism is repeating right-wing propaganda verbatim.

15. Yeah - let them start by killing Social Security and Medicare immediately...
Then they can smash the window out of the Department of Defence, and pull the plug on Homeland Security, and the NSA and CIA, and FEMA and the TSA, and the Food and Drug Administration, and...

Republicans are great at meaningless feel good rhetoric.

17. I used to fear him as a candidate,
Edited on Sat Feb-20-10 05:32 PM by woo me with science
because he is smooth-tongued and quick on the reply. However, the more he talks publicly, the clearer it becomes that he has a seriously warped view of what the "common man" will find amusing or endearing in a political candidate.

This is just a bizarre, inappropriate, disturbing connection to make. And it reminds me so much of his weird appearances on local talk radio in Minnesota, when he and his wife tried to get laughs by describing how he ignored her during her attack of appendicitis.

He doesn't get it. I am actually starting to hope he will be the Republican candidate. I think he has real potential to self-destruct without any help from Dems at all.
