Who wants a nut?
Some teabaggers claim Joe Stack is a leftist.

Soem DUers say he's a Freeper/teabagger.

Does anyone else realize who much this says about the political climate in the U.S. right now?

The left hand and the right hand don't even know which one they are.

Both are surrounded by a cloud of confusion, frustration and anger. The people know they're mad, but they don't fully understand who to blame.

A climate like this can give rise to some pretty horrible leaders.

3. I don't think he knew who HE was. Hence the confusion.
Some days you feel like a nut...and some days you don't.

4. Right.
For the record, I normally do.

But back to the topic, it's hard for a lot of people to tell these days.

Look at how each side tries to exploit the other's "talking points" and "keywords" - the ones that resonate favorably, at least.

The analysts make big dollars to obscure positions and blending them with generic patriotic platitudes about things we all agree with.

"I rat bastards in Congress..." and people don't define WHY they are rat bastards. One man's freedom to marry is another man's judicial activist tyranny, but both are pissed off.

Obama is talking about tax cuts today. W talked a lot about tax cuts. Is Obama like W?

.

The boundaries aren't clear to the casual citizen, I think.

9. Leftists don't complain about paying taxes, generally.
We complain about who's NOT paying taxes. LOL!

But "which side are you on" isn't my point. My point is more that the people can't easily tell anymore. There are freepers cheering him, DUers deriding him. The media - too soon to tell.

For the record, I agree. His expression is more left than right. Hell, I could have written most of it except for the biographical parts. Mine would have been far superior, of course. ;)

8. I don't know
His rant-a-festo is hard to make sense of, but I get the impression he bought into the big "L" right wing Libertarian fallacy that with enough "hard work, perserverence and rugged individualism" that anybody can grow up to be one of the big players. That philosophy most often leaves out such things as luck, connections and who your family is.

My guess is he invested his entire life and being into this fallacy to the point where he couldn't reconcile the fantasy vs the reality of it all, and in the end, the realization that it was all a big lie was too much for him to bear and it caused a psychotic episode that led to today's events.

I could be way off, but that's the impression I get....

12. when was the last time a "leftist" resorted to attempted murder to make a point?

While conversely, the "right" use violence for political purposes on a regular basis. Dr. Tiller's murder is only one recent example.

It is not reasonable to assume that this guy was a "leftist".

14. To paraphrase old Spock from the new Star Trek movie....
"He was a seriously disturbed Romulan."

The Harrisburg Patriot-News covered his past rather extensively today. He graduated from the Milton Hershey school in 1974 (I think that's right - paper's upstairs). A lot of unwanted kids get dumped there. Two of my cousins were sent there because my uncle's new wife didn't want anything to do with them. I'm not cutting on the school in any way, that's just a fact of life.

Anyway, he was described as highly intelligent but rather anti-social and not at all into spending time with people, although he was in a small band for a while. A former classmate located him a few years ago and was shocked at how terse he was on the phone. He didn't want anything to do with the Milton Hershey school or with anyone who went there.

His anti-government rants certainly make it easy to lump him in with the teabaggers, but frankly I think he was just an angry person with less than constructive ideas about how to vent.
