Stop Glenn Beck
http://blog.buzzflash.com/contributors/3006

by Sue Wilson

What started as a Twitter campaign by a lone law school student in Madison Wisconsin has morphed into Glenn Beck's worst nightmare: advertisers are dropping him like flies, his show in the UK does not have even one advertiser. Still, thanks to the power of News Corporation, the show goes on.

It started on July 2, 2009, when Angelo Carusone began a campaign called StopBeck.com , Tweeting his followers to pressure companies to stop advertising on Beck's FOX News TV program. It was a maverick journey, but not for long: on July 28, 2009, Beck told his legion of viewers, Obama "has a deep seated hatred of white people." That's when Color of Change, the largest African American online political organization in the country used its muscle to target Beck with its own campaign. To date, 285,000 people have signed onto the CC campaign's petition to call on advertisers to drop Beck.

Within three months, Fox News' Glenn Beck Show had lost 80 advertisers; that number has now grown to 116. The only advertisers remaining on Fox News in the US are purveyors of gold, Rupert Murdoch owned organizations like the Wall Street Journal, the State of Utah, and ironically, Murdoch's Direct TV competitor, Dish TV.

6. But it is not just Beck
NewsCorp apparently is using him like a "loss leader." They think they can ride this out ... but it's got to hurt at some level.

3. Ailes can not afford to loose face otherwise other
sponsors would start to drop on his other shows. He has to carry Beck and pretend everthing is OK. What should happen is advertisers should drop EVERY BODY ON FOX. That is till they start to really have a FAIR AND BALANCED series of shows, instead of being a 24/7 republican infomerical station.

7. It is time to change the focus to FOX NEWS itself.
If Beck has no advertisers and yet continues on then the only way to effect change is to encourage advertisers to stop advertising on FOX NEWS Period..

11. Easier said than done
If FNC is capable to be the #1 network on basic cable. Advertising opertunities will be too big to ignore.

13. The reason companies advertise is to attract customers.
If by that advertising they lose more than they gain is it really worth it to them? If Liberal groups could organize well enough to get 111 companies to pull their advertising from Glen Beck show, it demonstrates that the companies are listening to them.. If they said until Beck was removed they would boycott any advertiser that advertised on FOX NEWS maybe, just maybe, that would be enough incentive, especially since it would be only a temporary thing, just until Beck was removed....FOX will not remove him otherwise. They figure his ratings bring in viewers for their other programs as well and the advertisers will still be paying FOX the same amount..It really is no skin off FOX's nose per se. We need to make it skin of their nose or just accept it..

8. Beck Is A Loss Leader
He draws attention to Rupert's treehouse and his ratings are what sells. An advertiser may not want their money thrown in his show, but they will spend on others and Rupert uses Dreck's ratings to set his advertising rates...thus they pay higher rates thanks to his loss leader.

9. I'm very sorry it did not knock him off the air - but -
thrilled how the efforts have paid off, and how it must be an embarrassment for the ass hat.
That can't feel good, no matter how you spin it.

But something that touches me directly, Dish is on the list of remaining sponsors. I've been with Dish for years.
