3. Recommend. In their defense, settling abuse cases costs them a bundle.
They might have to stop wearing expensive robes at the Vatican if they give money to orphans.

Priorities.

8. the upside is they won`t be doing this anymore....
and a secular institution will. although there maybe a temporary decrease in funding over time the shortfall will be made up.

if they want to stand by their dogma fine but i think jesus would disagree.

9. as I recall didnt jesus say about children
'whosoever would harm one of these children should have a stone put around his neck and be cast into the sea'
or something like that

in other words, HUGE FAIL on the part of the Vatican

10. Hey, don't dwell on the church's anti-gay bigotry...
... think of all the good things it does in the community.

Er, uh, that is... :(

11. Somehow that doesn't sound like the sort of thing Jesus would do
from his character in the book.

13. I don't see a problem here. If the Catholics don't want to, they
shouldn't foster children. It bothers me a lot more that instead of stepping into the void created here, folks want to bash a stupid, hateful church group(s) for being stupid and hateful.

If you want someone else (the Catholic Church) to tend foster children, then they have room to cause issues like this. If you don't want them to cause issues like this, then tend foster children yourselves outside of such an organization.
