1. Franken is
but Amy Klobuchar is not.

She really is worthless. I wonder how she'll cope when her pal Evah Bayh leaves the Senate.

2. Well, This List Is Fairly New...
only a few days old.

The question is... once they are aware of it, how will they respond?

It's gonna be harder and harder to stay off of it, if more and more of it gets filled in with support.

Just a thought...

:woohoo:

I'm sure Boxer will be added on real soon too. It's just ironic that Feinstein got there first.

http://minnesotaindependent.com/55404/klobuchar-supports-reconciliation-public-option

Even if you called her office in the last few days you'd get told she didn't support it.

And, her position on healthcare was murky at best all these months. If you received any of her non-response response emails about health care you'd be hard pressed to figure out just where she stood on the issue. Just babbling about the how the Mayo Clinic does things, but nothing about whether or not she believed we should have a civilized health care system. Though she does send out one of the best written non-responses I've ever read.

On edit: I may have spoken too soon... Amy still seems to be avoiding taking a real position. From the link:

Klobuchar didn’t indicate she’d sign the letter, but said she supports “using reconciliation to pass the health reform bill with changes, such as getting rid of the Nebraska deal” — a reference to an addition to the bill to win conservative Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson’s vote.

I would want to make sure that the bill contains the Medicare care cost reform measures included in the existing bill. I am also supportive of the President’s efforts to forge a bipartisan agreement. We must reduce health care costs for the people of this country.

I support the House bill version of the public option which is based on negotiated rates. I do not support a public option based on Medicare rates because it exacerbates geographic disparities that already hurt Minnesota.

That's the Senator Klobuchar we've come to know - never take a firm stand when you can be wishy-washy. Though she has come out as being firmly against texting while driving and dangerous metals in kids' toys. A true profile in courage.

22. The story at MinnPost, like the Daily Kos link,
says Klobuchar had "indicated" her support. Minnpost says she has not decided if she'll sign the letter. Don't hold your breath, signing the letter would mean acutally taking a position - something Amy has perfected not doing.

24. Sounds like Udall.
I talked to his staffer today, she told me he "supports the public option" but is still "studying the letter and deciding whether to sign it."

Amazing. I can have conversations with almost anyone on the street, and they can usually tell me instantly if they're for or against the public option. But the guys in Washington who do politics for a living somehow can't make up their mind...

Baucus
Bayh
Dorgan
Landreu
Lincoln
Bill Nelson
Ben Nelson
and maybe Lieberman

That leaves 1-2 votes to spare in the senate.

...I'm glad to see him in the race, but I got a really whiny email from his campaign after the Denver Young Democrats debate. I haven't seen the debate yet, but people are saying he "lost," whatever that means.

Regardless, I'm glad he's in it. But Bennet will win. Frankly he deserves it.

30. I OPPOSE The so-called, Public Option
It is a Trojan Horse designed to sell a bill whose math I fully understood and read about years ago, whose central purpose is to force 40 million people to purchase private insurance at market rates in order to subsidize the coming "Baby boom bust" so insurance industry profits are protected.

The "problem of the uninsured" is framed as a category error in the bill, like the "problem of people on welfare". Kick them off the rolls (or in this case, simply make it a crime for them not to purchase insurance from a provider, whether it is technically a "public" plan or otherwise) and the problem goes away, according to Clintonian logic.

And the public option is restricted to 5% of potential users so it can be paid for by fines on others who opt-out.

ACCORDING TO THE ORIGINAL BROOKINGS REPORT ADVOCATING THIS BILL.

So yeah, fuck all those "center-left" and "center-right" Senators trying to ram through this clusterfuck of a bill!

They have no problem forcing others with less money than they have to purchase insurance.

31. Unbelievable how the sheeple are buying this fig-leaf as the remedy for a poison bill.
Edited on Thu Feb-18-10 01:41 AM by Leopolds Ghost
It's because they don't know anyone who would be affected.

No one in America, I mean no one, is going to come on DU and say "I can't afford insurance and we need this bill so that I can apply for the 5% program run by the same providers as a charitable subsidiary, and be forced to buy "regular" insurance if I don't qualify." (both the regular insurance and the "public option" would be run for-profit)

44. Not If They Want To Become Lobbyists For The Health Insurance Industry
You see... in days of yore, one would become a lobbyist, learn the ways of Washington, and then someday maybe run for the honor to be a Congressman, or even a Senator.

NOW... people run for the Congress or the Senate, learn the ways of Washington, and then leave, become lobbyists, and rake in tons of cash.

Sigh...
