Washington (CNN) -- The National Naval Medical Center has opened a review of the surgical care provided to the late Congressman John Murtha after the Pennsylvania Democrat died following surgery, a senior U.S. military official told CNN Wednesday.

The official declined to speak on the record citing privacy concerns, but confirmed to CNN that the review includes an in-depth "quality assurance review of the outcomes" of the care Murtha received.

1. Good. I don't understand why he died after a cholecystectomy. Perhas he had other
chronic health issues that caused his death, but it seems to me that his care should be reviewed.

4. The sad thing is.
Is this the best we can expect from universal healthcare?

5. Seven years ago my sister had a nick from this type of procedure..
She is in medicine and had hand picked her team and she still had this happen. She didn't die but she was very sick and off of work for quite some time. It happens and always will happen with or without universal care.
