Smith College announces commencement speaker: Rachel Maddow

NORTHAMPTON — Smith College has announced that MSNBC talk show host Rachel Maddow will be the speaker at the school’s 2010 commencement ceremony.

The liberal political analyst will receive an honorary degree May 16 from the Northampton college.

About a year after launching her MSNBC show in April 2008, Maddow was nominated for the Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in News and Information.

Also receiving honorary degrees are dance composer Martha Myers, record-setting rower Tori Murden McClure, environmental justice advocate Peggy Shepard, and global activist Princess Basma Bint Talal.
