Apple sure does do business with some sick fu**s
This is a Reuters article about how Apple does business at its manufacturing plants. They keep employees locked in their manufacturing plants and force them to literally live in bunkers. They even sent some thugs to physically assault the Reuters reporter taking pictures of the place from a public road.

There is also another article in which Apples thugs "suicided" an employee in Asia who lost a prototype Iphone. (yes, he's literally dead)

Just goes to show you how out of control these corporations are... and even the ones who put on a nice face to the public are capable of this kind of BS.

Interesting investigative article for anyone who wants to know what goes on behind the scenes at Apple.

1. with as much as Apple overcharges...
why do they have to make anything overseas?

i mean, i love my ipod.

but for as much as they are charging, they could make a handsome profit with a union shop.

what's the deal?

2. There is a site that breaks down the actual cost of manufacturing
Many of their products are 70-90% pure profit after the cost of manufacturing.

Here is a grid that shows the actual cost of the new Ipad, for example, compared to how much they are charging.

http://www.macrumors.com/2010/02/10/ipad-component-costs-estimated-to-begin-at-219-35/

32GB Ipad.... Retail price 729. Cost to manufacture 287.

No reason those jobs couldn't be here where human rights are respected. They don't need to make THAT much profit per device.

4. Where's your cell phone made? Perhaps in the exact same Foxconn factory that makes iPhones? (NT)

8. That's the same site that doesn't have an actual iPad to break down.
They used educated guesses and conjecture to come up with their numbers.

3. If that isn't scary enough, read this:
http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2009/10/apple-prepares-to-rock-the-market-with-hardware-subsidizing-program.html

In laymans terms this means that Apple wants to force advertising on you with this patent and the hardware could actually go so far as to render the software inoperable if the user doesn't interact with the ads. :yoiks:

I see an electronics version of a free condo time share vacation in return for a sales pitch.

5. Funny how this company makes stuff for many companies, but only Apple gets criticized for it.

Foxconn International...

Makes...
Nintendo Wii
Sony Playstation 2 and 3
Sony Playstation Portable
Intel Motherboards
Various computers for Dell & HP
Microsoft XBox 360
Motorola Cellphones
Amazon Kindle
Cisco Equipment
Zoostorm Motherboards
Microsoft Zune
GeForce Graphics Cards
Palm Pilots

And by the way. The only company that expressed remorse for any deaths related to American hardware was... wait for it...Apple.

EDIT: Your personal commentary on Apple's "thugs" were actually Foxconn managers. Apple's only involvement in the murder/suicide was their product. Way to use the inflammatory language! My hats off to you! You almost beat Palin's "Death Panels" remark with what you wrote.

Some of their lowest-priced units are built by Foxconn.

10. Thanks for doing the research on that...
Apple is hot, so the report picks on Apple.

11. Actually the report didn't pick on Apple
Just said that to keep it's upcoming products secret, they don't use just one vendor, like most other brands I mentioned.

The one who's picking on Apple is the OP.

13. Drive by Apple hater not telling us the whole story.
Why didn't you mention that this same contractor manufacturers products for so many other companies, including Microsoft, HP, and Dell? Why did you single out Apple? Isn't that being a bit disingenuous on your part?

I wish Apple and all the other CE manufactures would build their products in the USA, but until our government stops encouraging outsourcing with their insane trade policies it will never happen.
