Why did HuffPo downplay the Clinton story?
When most news organizations and websites lead with the story of former President Clinton's heart surgery, the Huffington Post barely covered the story. Last night and this morning their were two different headline stories on their home page but the Clinton story was shoved further down on the page and was quickly removed this afternoon, interesting that there are still several older stories featured at the bottom of their home page. Why did the Huffington Post downplay what was a major story for the rest of the media?

2. It is a pretty common solution to a very predictable medical need?
It is hardly major news to anyone outside a patient's immediate family. It is a pretty standard procedure.

It's really ok for a news blog to post news that affects more people than just a patient and his immediate family above the fold.

6. she probably figuredthat tidbit of news would be well-covered . . .
and it was. besides, it hardly qualifies as political news. i am glad SOMEONE refrained from jumping on the bandwagon. as i said elsewhere, i'm not looking forward to the news coverage of his penile implant. :eyes:

7. Cable news was treating it like a death watch, which was just plain wrong. It's not a trivial event
... but it is also not the end of the world. I watched the cardiologist trying to get this across to the scrum of reporters who all wanted to know, in so many words:

Was it a heart attack? ("NO" every time it was asked.)
Was this event Clinton's personal fault? ("NO, he leads an exemplary lifestyle" every time it was asked)
Was his life in danger? ("NO; installing a stent takes great skill, but is a fairly routine way of managing heart disease")
And finally the cardiologist told them, "President Clinton has heart disease. It cannot be cured. But it can be managed. We are managing it."

The doctor managed the crowd pretty well, for a bunch of sensationalistic idiots looking for a headline.

I don't read HuffPo, but I really got tired of the gossipy eagerness of the newsies to trade scraps of information and inflate what they didn't know about. Maybe Arianna was being restrained.
