NBC News Shows Snuff Film
Shame on you, Managing Editor Brian Williams.

The sickos can and will find it. You don't show it on network television during dinner hour.

5. Oh shit, that is NOTHING like a 'snuff' film.
good grief...it's a tragic news story and if I were the family of that kid, I would want it broadcast if only to show his courage and the need for more safety measures.

6. It is not a 'snuff film'. Stop that.
No one killed him, it was an accident.

For years we've seen death in war, and every other kind imaginable on the news. This is mild in comparison.

News shouldn't be watched during dinner anyway.

Talk to each other instead.

there's no reason for accidents like this to happen.. you can have speed and safety at the same time..

12. That is not a snuff film.
Spare us the drama.

snuff film:
n. Slang
A movie in a purported genre of explicit pornography culminating in the actual violent death of a participant in a sex act.

21. And then there's the non-porno definition
"A snuff film or snuff movie is a motion picture genre that depicts the actual death or murder of a person or people, without the aid of special effects, for the express purpose of distribution and entertainment or financial exploitation."

Note is says "actual death or murder", not murder exclusively, nor in a porn film.

Although the way Suzanne Malveaux on CNN breathlessly introduced it, with "concern" amped up in her voice and a bathetic gleam in her eye, there was something pornographic about it. There was certainly "financial exploitation" involved.

14. Technically, this kind of thing is not a "snuff film,"
but it's close enough for me that I don't want to see it.

It's a recording of someone dying. I've already had enough of that. How many times have we seen that second plane fly into the Twin Towers? How many times did we see the footage of them both coming down? I will never forget watching the second one come down and thinking "People are probably dying in that building right now...way more people than we saw die when the Challenger exploded...and I am watching this."

Don't need to do something like that again. Not for even one person.

15. My local ABC affiliate ran it three times on the 11 PM news.

I think they were factually incorrect about one point however. They said he might have been traveling around 90 mph. I read somewhere earlier where his speed was estimated at around 140 mph.

19. they didnt need to show it
It was a sports person dying, it wasnt war it wasnt a terrorist attack.

Now we have a new level on what can be shown, I hate to see what will be allowed in 20 years time.

25. Good for you
Human decency doesn't have a home on the left or right. There are all sort of "unfiltered" news items out there, and you know where to find them.

Watching someone die has no place on the nightly news.

26. Of course it does
Only the uptight think of it as "watching someone die". Others think that its good to have as much information about a news event as possible, and that seeing something with their own eyes can help them draw the best conclusion as to their response to the event, their opinion as to the cause of the event and how they should react to the event.

The world is not a sanitary place. We shouldn't pretend it is in order to keep the more sensitive of us safe from laying their eyes on anything that may bother them.

To answer you question, if i felt my children were mature enough to handle it, sure.

Good news is all three went to prison. Two on multiple counts of homicide, the third who hadn't participated in the killings was convicted on robbery charges.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dnepropetrovsk_maniacs

Money quote:
"An opinion poll conducted in Dnepropetrovsk found that 50.3% of people believed that the sentence was fair, and 48.6% believed that the sentence should have been more severe."

Half of respondents were satisfied with them getting raped in prison, the other half wanted them to get raped in prison ... with chainsaws!
