More than a decade ago I could tolerate centrist governor Evan Bayh, but then he got to the Senate and lurched right-of-center, with clear national ambitions. He was popular enough here as a centrist that the rightward lurch wasn't needed to be reelected here. Have been a vocal nonfan when there was VP speculation the past two presidential elections.
After the Mass special election sudden new interest on the GOP side of this race. The opponents are so extreme and so embarrassing.
A teabagger who is on Utube encouraging taking up arms if new folks aren't elected to congress.
Former Rep Hostettler who once brought breast cancer survivor/constituents who visited his office (to raise awareness of the lack of dollars at the time going to breast cancer research) to tears by going on a tirade citing false research that tied breast cancer to abortions (ala - if you have the cancer you must have had an abortion)... among other extremist events over his tenure in congress.
Late entry (and doubtful to get the signatures needed to run in time) Dan Coates - the replacement for Dan Quayle who always came off as an empty suit ready to spout the current extremist spin - (think Palinesque a decade ago), who has been lining his pockets as a lobbyist for a long time in DC.
Ugh. In comparison each makes Evan seem progressive (which his record shows he is not.)
Once again... ugh. But as much as I hate to say it - Evan is better than the very scary alternatives. Ugh. Sorta sucks to be a hoosier progressive in this election cycle.
