Proposed: Belated New Year's Resolution #1
I (the undersigned) will tirelessly oppose Republicans and their ilk for their awful policies and their destructive corporatist, inhumane, and retrograde "values." I will seek to convince others that the path to America's progress depends on rejecting the agenda of greed, imperialism, and narrow moralism.

I will not be distracted with trivialities, and I will not resort to bigotry (sexism, ageism, classism, etc.), dishonesty (lies, half-truths, hypocrisy), or sleaziness (low-blow personal/family attacks, cheap-shot namecalling), which do not reflect well upon ourselves or on Democrats/liberals/progressives in general and which fuel the Republican Party's base's sense of culture-war righteousness.

2. Indeed I do

I am very disappointed that so many elected Dems fit within the "ilk" I mention in the OP.

It's quite tragic how an era -- and an electorate -- that cries out for real change, real repudiation of the Reagan Revolution, isn't getting much of any.

4. Cool
Sadly, so much of supposed Democratic/liberal/progressive discourse is occupied with mindless and backfiring tribal trivialities about the other side being bimbos and depends-wearers and such.

I'm pretty irreverent, but the heart of our objections to Republicans shouldn't be that someone is a woman, is old, or any other content-free or low-blow stick we can find. It should be that we stand for something better. Damned if I can tell if we do anymore. Doesn't make the Republicans worth jackshit, but what are we doing to be more worthy? Surging in Af-Pak, coddling Wall Street, letting Big Insurance and Big Pharma right the healthcare "reform" bill, and ratifying and extending Bush's assaults on the Constitution? Add sophomoric "oppo" to it, and it's no wonder the Dem prospects look so gloomy for November.
