Tim Tebow / Focus on the Family Super Bowl Ad (VIDEO)
The ad itself is syrupy but not really offensive, in my opinion. That's not to say Focus on the Family is NOT one the most despicable groups around.

Tim Tebow SUPER BOWL AD VIDEO: SEE The Focus On The Family Commercial

First Posted: 02- 7-10 02:26 PM | Updated: 02- 7-10 02:43 PM

Tim Tebow's Super Bowl ad has been rumored for weeks. The commercial, long suspected to contain a pro-life message, was protested by many women's groups, which pressured CBS not to air the ad. Planned Parenthood even released a preemptive video in response to the commercial.

After much anticipation, the ad has now been released. It does not contain any overtly pro-life message and is tamer than many may have expected. The ad mostly consists of Pam Tebow, Tim's mother, talking about her son. The former Florida quarterback only speaks at the end of the commercial:

PAM TEBOW: I call him my miracle baby. He almost didn't make it into this world. I remember so many times when I almost lost him. It was so hard. Well he's all grown up now, and I still worry about his health. Everybody treats him like he's different, but to me, he's just my baby. He's my Timmy, and I love him.

TIM TEBOW: Thanks mom. Love you too.

1. UM, there is a SERIES of ads today
HuffingtonPost really needs to get their act together. The one that has been released is the one leaning up to the SuperBowl ad.

2. They just played that on CBS a few minutes - makes me wonder if there's another version for the game
I don't know, but my first thought was "Maybe they have this one to build up the tension before the game's final one that'll be heavy-handed and obnoxious".

3. I saw it and wondered the same thing. It was sappy but not awfully offensive.
I wasn't watching closely but I don't think they mentioned Roe or abortion or even the phrase 'pro life' (some people would have us believe it's impossible to be pro-life -and- pro-choice.)
grr

4. No, it didn't have any of that - all she said was something like many times his life was in jeopardy
or was close to dying, something like that, but never mentioned abortion nor any other specifics.

Which makes me even more suspicious that there's a reall assholy one coming for the actual game.

5. Well, if this last one is as intense as they get, they wasted a group of money
let's hope.

8. Did they?
It's possible that the message has gotten more "free advertising" from all the media attention than the ad itself would have been worth... and now they may not even get any backlash.

Far more clever than the PETA attempts at free coverage.

9. A lot of the free advertising came in the form of discussion on Web forums
Like this one.

10. So what exactly is the point of the ad?
And why would CBS, or anyone else for that matter, give a damn what Pam and Tim Tebow's private life experience is?

13. The point was to whip up a frenzy of phony controversy BEFORE it was aired,
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 04:17 PM by slackmaster
And to attract attention to Focus On The Family.

I'd say it worked pretty well, and it hasn't even been aired yet.
