Super Bowl: Dems vs. GOP?
A poll shows Democrats are rooting for the Saints while Republicans favor the Colts. Has it really come to this?

Forget about football! If a new poll is to be believed, Red America and Blue America will be facing off in Sunday's Super Bowl, too. The survey, conducted by Public Policy Polling, reveals that a significant majority of Democrats want the New Orleans Saints to win, while GOP support lines up behind the Indianapolis Colts (albeit by a slimmer margin). Fittingly, a key battleground state, Florida, is hosting the big game. What, if anything, can be learned from Super Bowl's bizarre partisan divide?

The poll may contain good news for Democrats: "This poll might seem unimportant," says Eric Kleefeld in Talking Points Memo, but it contains at least one "crucial message" for relentless political analysts: Independents also favor the Saints, 33 percent to 20 percent. You know what that means: "Democrats still have the independent voters" in their pockets…when it comes to football.

5. This is getting out of hand.
I enjoy following politics and all, but sometimes I need a break.

I watch football (and play video games and watch movies...) to get a break from politics. If I didn't get these much needed breaks from politics, I would go stark raving mad!

To people who are looking at the Superbowl as some red vs. blue showdown I say: STFU and enjoy what should be a good game of FOOTBALL!

As for the game, I think Peyton Manning is the best player in the NFL today and I like the Colts, but I really want the Saints to claim victory. I think it would be a positive boost to New Orleans, and a very dear friend/surrogate dad of mine was a die hard Saints fan for all of the years I knew him. I love you Hans, hopefully your Saints will finally bring home the trophy... I just wish you were here to witness it.
