1,400 People show up for free dental clinic in Tulsa today.
Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 06:29 PM by AndyA
Free dental care is being offered to ANYONE in the city of Tulsa today. By early afternoon, it was estimated that over 1,400 people had shown up. The goal was to treat 1,600 patients during the two day (Friday-Saturday) clinic.

90 chairs are available, and everything from cleaning to root canals is being done.

In other news, we had Condi Rice in town today to speak to some organization. (BAD)

Eric Clapton, Black Eyed Peas, George Strait, Bon Jovi, and Tim McGraw are all playing the BOK Center soon. (GOOD) http://www.bokcenter.com/index.asp

On the news this morning, they said the first patient had been waiting in line since Wednesday morning to see a dentist. It makes me feel good to know that even here in the heart of Red country, there are still people who care about others.

1. That's wonderful that somebody is doing dental clinics!
We're retired now, but even when my hibby was working and had endtal coverage, it was junk insurance! It covered a cleaning & 1 exam each year, but next to nothing for any treatments! It wasn't only ours either. My son works fora large respected co. and most of their employees stay for a lifetime, and he said their dental coverage was junk too. Dental treatments are very expensive, and if people can't afford regular HC, they sure can't affor to go to the dentist!

2. I'm retired also----with dental coverage. I had two teeth that were
getting loose so my dentisr recommended having them extracted and sent me to a DDS.

I did have them out----at $190.00 per tooth, which the insurance didn't cover. The entire procedure took less than 20 minutes.

Next time I'll let them fall out on their own. (My bone is deteriorating)

12. I had the same problem. Checked online and found a product
called OramPlus. Please note: This is the one that works. I started brushing my teeth with this and within a month and a half, no more loose teeth and my whole mouth is healthier. I have it shipped once a month and cannot do without it. The taste is a little different, but after about a week, I was fine with the taste and loved the results. The longer you use it, the better your teeth get. I'm sure it won't replace lost bone, but it will strengthen your teeth and I'm talking about lose teeth. I still need a root canal and a new cap; but the OramPlus has kept the infection in that tooth under control also.

I do not work for this company and get absolutely nothing for any referral. This all natural medicine is made from about eight different herbs, like peppermint, which is antibacterial, etc. All I can say is it was a lifesaver for me.

The monthly cost is 37 dollars and I got free shipping at the time I purchased the once a month deal.

Good luck.

5. Dental care is free on the NHS, actually.
The stereotype about 'British teeth'? Generally wrong; cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics are a good deal less common in the UK than in the US, but I saw more people with noticeable bad teeth in the US than I have here.

Also, a diet of booze and speed? Not good for you regardless of nationality.

6. Tulsa is my hometown, it is probably the most schizophrenic city in the U.S.
Some of the best and some of the worst of people call it home...I lived there from age 6 to age 50 and was always amazed at the confluence of modern brilliance in technology and knuckledragging support of
televangelical-encouraged bigots. The huge presence of Oral Roberts University students in the local gay bars
always amused me.

11. They had a free dental clinic at the civic center in my city of La Crosse (50,000) last summer:
http://www.wkbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=10624984

Whether it was filling cavities or removing teeth, organizors say the Mission of Mercy program was an overwhelming success.

The Mission of Mercy was put on by the Wisconsin Dental Association and provided free dental care for more than 1,500 La Crosse residents in need.

More than $850,000 in free care was given in just two days and included everything from a cavity to partial dentures. Doctors say both the patients and volunteer benefited from the Mission of Mercy.

"The joy is there for the patients, the joy is there for the people that work to serve on this, it's a two way street and certainly we got as much out of providing care as hopefully the patients did receiving the care," said Dr. Tim Durtsche, Volunteer for Mission of Mercy.

More than 900 volunteers helped out with the event, including 170 dentists and 87 dental hygienists.
