So, Mid-Altantic DU'ers...ready for the Big Storm? How's it looking out where you are?
Posted by a curious Clevelander...we're not supposed to do too badly this weekend ourselves, just a few inches...but I actually went out and stocked up on what I needed beforehand just in case things get nasty a little further northwest!

Ah, it's so much more fun, though, when you have had as much weather misery as we usually get, grabbing the  and watching other people deal with it...

2. It's raining here in eastern NC.
I've battened down the hatches, stocked up on a week's supply of goods and I'm sitting in my recliner goofing off on DU. I looked out the door a few minutes ago. IT'S WET OUT THERE!!! I guess I'll have to be extra careful when I'm outside running around nekked in the middle of the night tonight. I'LL BET IT WILL TURN INTO ICE AND BE ALL SLIPPERY AND SHIT WHEN NIGHT TIME COMES, THEN MELT IN THE MORNING!!! Should I wait to run around nekked once it melts tomorrow morning or what? zOMG!!! What to do? What to do? :yoiks:

Does that reaction look about right?

14. If you really run around nekkid in the middle of the night
that does sound like a  worthy event. Even without the ice.

3. Looking forward to the 25+ inches!
Got my food, sled, and movies. Although I am little worried about the blizzard conditions they are calling for east of DC....Keeping my fingers crossed that Baltimore Gas & Electric holds steady and keeps on our power.

Just kidding...well, it's piling up alright...but there was already 6 inches from b4! They say the windy -blizzardy part starts tomorrow. We are good so far. Just hope the power stays on. THAT would be the bummer part of it all!

It's been pretty steady for the last few hours - the real heavy stuff will be overnight.

10. Worried about losing power.
There are some exposed utility cables that serve our neighborhood, with trees all around them, and every time we get even a summer storm we have an outage. It only takes one branch to fall. Already I see the trees around the house bending a bit with the weight of the snow.. :scared:

13. I'm ready for it. Currently spending Snowkill2010 with my mom and grandpa
As long as I have my anime, internet, 4cham my school textbooks, video games, and my food. All is right. There is one silver lining to this: With the possibility of an additional snowstorm this Tuesday-Wednesday there is a possibility that the University of Maryland will be closed the whole next week.

No class means I can easy play catchup with my readings and finish up prep for Katsucon 16!

19. Snowing like crazy here in Pittsburgh, PA
Was clear at 4 pm, now we have 8 inches of really heavy, wet snow on the ground and it's still coming down at the same rate. Winter storm warning on the Weather Channel says 8-10 more inches before 2 pm tomorrow.

The roads are a total mess, but also luckily most everybody seems to be staying indoors. We went out for dinner tonight before it got really bad, but we still saw a huge accident involving 4 city buses on a steep hill, one of which was halfway tilted over onto a parked car (somebody was having a bad night).

We generally don't get snow like this in Pittsburgh - it's kind of a dead zone for winter weather in PA, and typically we spend our winters with lots of cloud cover and freezing rain but not heavy snowfall. So this is kind of exciting and cool.

20. In Gaithersburg here, we are supposed to get 20-30 inches here. SnowMyGod
And out to our west a bit the forecast is 30-40 inches. I'm going to stop listening to the news today, every time I hear a prediction of the snow amounts, it goes up. I have already lost power once, for about 3.5 hours.

21. NoVa-Just got in from helping neighbors shovel and rescuing stuck vehicles
It is crazy out there - near-blizzard conditions with lots of snow on the ground.

We're in the western suburbs of DC.

I'm still defrosting.

22. This kind of weather reminds me of the blizzards of '77 and '78 when I was in high school.
One of those winters, we saw three vehicles, including a milk truck (yes, we still had milk trucks back then), stuck in our front ditch because the truck slid in and then the other two somehow thought they were going to help pull it out and all they did was get stuck as well.

Oh, and there was the five-foot snowdrift that built up in front of the house that we had to dig a tunnel through just to get to the driveway. And then had to keep the driveway shoveled so that the cars could get out. Being a teenager, I got pressed into shoveling duty a lot.

I've seen my share of amazing storms since then, including the ice storm in Rochester, NY in '91, the huge Eastern March blizzard in '93 and some "hurricanes with snow" along the Eastern Seaboard that messed with my travel plans in Maryland big time. But the winters of '77 and '78 will always have a special place in my memory. Used to wake up in the morning at my mother's tap on the door just long enough to hear her say "No school again today," then go back to sleep. Eventually get up, sit around, read, listen to WMMS, play Monopoly with my sisters, find out what Mom was making for dinner that night, eat it, play more Monopoly and go to bed. Oh, and in '77 we all watched "Roots." It wasn't as if we had to get up the next day for school so why not stay up late watching TV?
