Tell Glenn Beck: My name is [Insert your name] and I am an American.
Oooh, I like this! It's real easy, too.

Tell Glenn Beck: My name is and I am an American.

On the February 4th edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Glenn Beck unleashed the latest in what has become a long series of racially charged comments about President Obama. Purporting to explain why Obama chose to start using the name Barack instead of Barry, Beck said:

He chose to use his name, Barack, for a reason. To identify, not with America -- you don't take the name Barack to identify with America. You take the name Barack to identify with what? Your heritage? The heritage, maybe, of your father in Kenya, who is a radical? Is -- really? Searching for something to give him any kind of meaning, just as he was searching later in life for religion.

At Media Matters, we listened to this segment with confusion. What is an American name? Instead of helping the American people come together with a common purpose, Beck seeks to divide us along ethnic and racial lines.

Let's join together and demand Glenn Beck stop dividing our country. Right now, we need tens of thousands of people to step forward and, with one voice, loudly tell Glenn Beck:

My name is and I am an American.

Submission at link-very easy!

1. There should be a special site four our grandmothers, many of whom
had unbelievably foreign-sounding names. Different times, different names.

8. My first name is the nickname my grandmother had as a girl.
I wonder if Glenn thinks that means I am identifying myself as a German.

3. I don't see how that would help unless I also have a bodacious name
Most first names are pretty common, aren't they? We all know a whole bunch of Davids and Jeffs and Marys and Kellys and Mehitables. Okay, that last one is not so common any more. I also have not met either a Keziah nor an Israel. Nor an Ezra or Ephraim an Eliphalet or an Elijah or Eliakim. Or a Philander, although I think I have met a few philanderers.

4. Pretty soon Beck will be going after Americans who don't have surnames like Smith
He also is ignoring even some non-white conservatives, which I presume include Cuban- and Vietnamese-Americans.

6. Searching for something to give him any kind of meaning
"Searching for something to give him any kind of meaning, just as he was searching later in life for religion. "

It's sad how peoples rants reveals something more about them than their targeted subject. That explains Beck not Obama to a T.
