Police Respond To Shooting At Discovery Middle School In Madison
15-year-old rushed to Huntsville Hospital, reportedly shot in head; alleged shooter in custody
MADISON, AL - Police will hold a news conference at 3:00pm to discuss details of a shooting at Discovery Middle School in Madison, Alabama.
The news conference will be held at Madison Fire Station 2, which is just across the street from the school.
Paramedics confirm there was shooting inside the school. WHNT NEWS 19 has confirmed through the Madison County Sheriff's Department that a 15-year-old was shot in the head. The teen was rushed to Huntsville Hospital. The sheriff's department says the alleged shooter is in custody. The shooting happened in the ninth grade hallway at Discovery Middle School.
The shooting happened just after 1:30pm Friday. Police have a perimeter set up outside the school, which is at 1304 Hughes Road.
Madison Mayor Paul Finley is on the scene, and says the school is on lock down. He urges parents to stay away from the school. Mayor Finley says police cannot afford to have any added traffic at the school right now for security purposes. Mayor Finley says the situation is under control, and that all other students are safe and accounted for.
