Biden's Performance - Were You Surprised? (I was)
I think he was really, really good. Experienced, articulate, presidential. I would have never guessed that going into tonight.

11. JFK Democrat
I think he merely meant that there are times that the use of force is required. Kucinich and Gravel had both just sounded like Democrats are all pacifists. I think Biden's answer was correct and presidential.

6. Yes he did well....
but I did not like his last answer about his love for war, death and destruction and no happy talk....turned me off!

9. It wasn't a discussion of "love for war."
It was a statement of reality... if you want to stop genocide, you have to get engaged militarily. That's what we did in Kosovo, and that's what we should be doing in Darfur.

31. he's valued appropriately
Most of remember Anita Hill. He's a plagiarizing slick talker, always looking out for number one, and the kinda guy who gives politicians in general a bad name.

10. I've had a few conversations with him.
He's always highly impressed me. But I've kept my head down with all the Biden-haters here on DU. I don't know that Biden is at or near the top of my presidential list, but I think he's one of the good guys.

16. Did you happen to go to UD?
I know that's what got a few of my classmates and I "in the door," as it were, when I was in D.C. It was during the Social Security boondoggle, and it really impressed me how on top of what was really going on (getting rid of SS entirely).

12. No. Experience showed in this debate.
Some people were able to improvise and others had trouble getting out of their stump speech.

I disagree with many things he said, but I did not doubt he would do well in a debate.

18. Biden always talks a good talk
It's the way he votes that I dislike about him. He voted for the bankruptcy bill, he voted for the war, and he wags his tail for big corporations with their HQ in Delaware.

28. I was VERY surprised
I kind of liked him back in the '88 primaries, and tonight I was reminded why. He was totally on track and focused, and that's when he's at his best. The Joe Biden I saw tonight I could easily imagine being president.

29. You nailed it
I kept thinking presidential. And experience (after the chimp) will be key in the general election. I was really surprised with Biden. I'll be interested to see if it translates into money for the campaign.

30. No. He's always been very glib,
which I suppose is facilitated by being able to speak out of both sides of one's mouth.
