Well, on Sunday, we are headed out to see Crazy Heart...
Then over to a local Italian Restaurant, one that doesn't have sports TV on 10,000 screens.

I am sick and tired of the hype for Super Bowl. It's just a football game. The only thing the game was good for was to carry the holiday spirit deep into winter. Well, that's pretty much gone now.

I am sick and tired of the way people in this country continue to shovel huge amounts of money at some of the richest men in the world just so they can have a team in their hometown. The Colts slinked out of Baltimore literally in the middle of the night opening the door for the Browns to be lured to Baltimore a few decades later.

I don't really want to have anything more to do with professional sports. The greed of the owners is unbelievable. The hypocrisy of the Baseball Union when the players cross every picket line they come across. There doesn't seem to be any attempt by any sports figures to recognize that most of their fans are having financial trouble at best and a fiscal meltdown at worst.

If these dilettantes don't care, why should I care about their games...

1. Agree... completely
CBS's decision to turn over ads to Focus on the Family so that they can cram their propaganda vis-a-vis abortion at us was the clincher. I can think of a zillion things I'd prefer to do, not the least being spending time with my somewhat health-fragile old pup....

BTW, those who don't want to get out and don't have cable, can get a little overdose of cuteness at animalplanet.com (they are going to live stream their little annual "puppy bowl"....;)

2. As soon as I heard about that movie...
I knew it was one you'd enjoy...

Have a ball!

And I agree completely about the game. Enough already...

3. You have to understand some basic truths about American society...
they prefer fantasy over reality, especially these days.

As things get worse for the average person, they will cling that much more to things that distract them from the depression from our current economic woes.

And as such, more money is shoveled at the ads because they see an uptick in viewership. And because of the uptick, more spectacle.

It's a vicious cycle. Beer, chips and other "munchies" will always be cheap and will afford those a nice respite from our daily insanity.

Plus as people tighten their belts, more "group" type things are becoming popular. Even if it is watching rich men, playing a kids sport, in a over priced coliseum built by wealthy men to further enrich their treasuries.

5. No one said you had to, but sadly, many people do.
so like yourself, I too am in the minority.

I choose just to not watch tv. My life is much better for it. :)
