Vibes for my husband, please...

He is feeling acutely unwell, abdominal pain, etc...

We're going to the ER on the advice of the MD on call...

I'm scared.

Talk to you all later...

----------------------------------------

Send out some good vibes her please. Peggy has helped me many nights here on DU and on the phone when I was down.

there is a resolution. They can get so busy in ER that they lose sight of what they're doing. Also, they have blankets warming on that floor. Be sure you ask for two or three to keep your love warm and put one around yourself also, and please think of those warm blankets as a hug from all of the people who love you at DU.

26. **Thank you, everyone!** He is OK...**
We just got home from the ER...

It was a kidney stone ...

Painful enough to cause the nausea and abdominal pain. We waited quite a lot, but they were busy...

Everyone was very nice and did a great job...

CT scan gave the diagnosis...he also got IV fluids, and IV pain meds...the best under the circumstances.

Everything took forever, but we are grateful for the excellent care...

And now we're home and decompressing...

Thanks for all the great vibes, and thank you, my dear Straight Story for this fantastic thread...

DU is my cyber family!

I love you all!

He was in so much pain and when he called me I was so scared. We thought his appendix burst. He had another episode a year later and was told to drink more water, he was getting too dehydrated.
I'm a glad that everything will be okay. Kidney stones are very painful to get through though.

40. Oh, thank god! When I first heard "abdominal pain" I thought of diverticulitis
which is serious but curable when caught in time. Kidney stones are among the most painful, tho, and I'm so glad he got treated asap, tho not as soon as I'm sure he would have wanted, given the discomfort he must have been in!

Good luck to you both!

Peggy, glad to here your husband was alright. I suffer, and you definitely suffer, with kidney stones myself. Your husband was lucky he had you there. The first time I had a stone pass I was living by myself and had no idea what was going on other than it hurt like hell. I eventually had to drive myself to the hospital at about 2:00 am. He may have to change his diet a little bit but otherwise the stone will eventually pass (unless it is too big but the x-rays would have shown that).

105. I'm very happy for you! I hate those! Aetna's screwing me with my treatments now!
Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 09:02 PM by cascadiance
Still need to get ahold of them, but I'm getting bills from both doctors and hospital and Aetna that don't match up, and no "official" bill yet from a procedure that happened two months ago.

I got ESWL treatments specifically to prevent any future kidney stones from happening, as just a little over a year ago, I had to get laser lithotripsy to get rid of one then.

Not too long ago last year, my new urologist just got "pulled out" of Aetna's network, so looking at my policy, out of network pays for 70% instead of 80% of fees, so I didn't think I'd have to pay too much more to stick with my existing doctor. WRONG!

When I got unemployed last year, decided to do ESWL to zap the rest out of my system, as I didn't want my COBRA to expire and leave future stones being potentially uncovered as "preexisting conditions" which with complications, could bankrupt me if I had problems with future laser lithotripsies.

But now Aetna's denying about half of my doctor's submitted charges as not within their "reasonable price" limits. And they're nickeling and diming me for my hospital bills as well as other earlier visits last year for CT scans, etc.

Well it turns out they have "separate" upper limits for "coinsurance payments" (translated meaning the balance of the portion that they expect YOU possibly to pay that they "don't feel like paying"). I'd already hit my $1k limit for in network charges. But they took advantage of my doctor's bills being in "out of network" sink so that with that being a limit of $2k. So instead of them paying 70% of my bill, they're paying less than half of my doctor's bill, and I still don't know how much of the hospital bill they are paying too. And now I'm close to coming up with almost another $3k on top of my other "expected" charges and annual deductible with these so-called "co-insurance" bullshit "deductions" these guys do to weasel out of paying bills.

It's a mess! Part of me is wondering if I truly factored in the potential costs of this which I figured about a third of what I'm actually going to be billed with my limited unemployed budget. On the other hand, seeing what's happening here, if we don't get pre-existing condition limitations in, and cost controls in place so that my new employer will still feel it worth paying for a decent plan for their employees, I still protected myself from potential financial ruin if I left these potential problems to the future where I could be made broke.

Hoping that your bills don't kick you in the ass and he passes his stone normally...

Thanks for your good wishes, sweetie, and I hope things get better for you too...
