How do you Console a Loved One whose Heart is Broken by what Is Happening to this Administration
Edited on Thu Feb-04-10 07:36 PM by Mike_03
My sister almost never cries about politics, but she chokes up every time I talk to her about President Obama, what he is trying to do, and how many obstacles he is facing.

Not just him--her concerns extend to:

The impact of irrational hatred on his beautiful family; wife, Michelle, and daughters.

My hope is that we can convert the hatred of the opposition into great benefit on our side, because it is so disgusting to see our President work 24/7 and get no cooperation in return from the other side, or to see him and his family threatened by psychotic maniacs.

The creative challenge we have before us is how to turn the hideous un cooperation of the "other side of the aisle" to our advantage. I think it is having some effect after watching the Congressional hearings of the last two weeks, but naturally I do not trust them whatsoever.

But could things be changing for the better? I am praying that is is possible.

EDIT: "Un-cooperative"

1. I can assure you he is a big boy. Let's not be overly melodramatic.

3. I hope you are right. Martin Luther King was a big boy too. But naturally, I am

hoping you are prescient.

And just to add: I think of myself as a big boy too, but I would never trade places with President Obama, his wife, or his children. No way.

That goes to my weakness.

5. Still, it pisses me off what the opposition is doing.
It's not right and the losers are all of us Americans.

It really is ridiculous.

4. I read your post completely differently.
I have loved ones who are distraught that the man they supported and voted before has morphed into ronald reagan.

7. WE've been here before...
...it really is no different from the beginning of the civil righrs movement. There was a LOT of consternation, accusations, and bad stuff happening among the leaders of the movement. It was about this time that they adopted the "Eye On The Prize" mantra.

And they had a leader that could communicate the feelings of those involved. As we do. Hang in there.

8. I can only suggest that you steer the conversation toward the positive aspects of this situation
Such as the fact that he and his wife seem to handle both the adversity and the nastiest insults with exemplary dignity and courage. They're like the textbook example of how to take this sort of thing in stride and keep moving forward. I feel that the kids are adequately protected and they certainly appear to be happy and well-adjusted.

9. If she's actually weeping over it, something else might be going on
She might be going through a period of depression, the "common cold" of mental illness. Crying over politics is not a normal response. Screaming "WANKER!" at your television is the normal response.

Things changed for the better on Friday when Obama demolished every single stupid talking point the right has.

Now all we're waiting for is for the committee working on health care to realize they're completely bogged down in minutiae from idiot conservatives and send it to reconciliation. Maybe having Brown show up will do that.

10. This OP reminds me quite a bit of another very recent OP
by someone deploring how terribly Obama was being treated and how much he and his family were being hated and wasn't it awful all the opposition he was facing.

Coincidence? Not sure.

12. Instead of sitting at home crying... get to work!

You want change? WORK to make it happen.

Sitting at home crying about how mean and nasty the other side is doesn't accomplish anything.

Obama is a big boy, he can handle himself.

Worry about yourself... and get to work!
