Just my two cents, which are worth less than a penny :-)
I don't trust this merger as far as I can throw it, and Al Franken and Arlen Spectre touched on why this is a sham. Should this merger be approved, there will be less variety in programming, less access, and greater cost to get access to what a pittance is out there on cable and tv.
This just reminds me of what Rush Limpballs has done to AM radio. It is just more of the same: total control.
Having worked in the entertainment industry for a long time, it is--as Al Franken said during today's hearing--the rule of the game to be lied to to your face.
I am so glad he said this, and just put it on the line.
I don't know a single human being who has worked in film, TV or cable who has not been looked in the eye and lied to, so I don't place much credence at all in any promises made by the CEOs of NBC or Comcast.
It is ridiculous. If anything, I would have to guess that there are more sociopaths per square inch in the entertainment industry than there even are in politics.
With apologies to other friends who worked in the entertainment industry...
Just for the record, I was lied to on my very first writing job in motion pictures. Was paid half of what I was promised.
Thank you Al Franken--you rock.
