No good deed goes unpunished.
Michael Moore has donated $5,000 to keep the Harbor Theater in Muskegon open. Some of the anonymous comments posted to the story on MLive took him to task for his philanthropy.
In evidence stands Michael Moore, a fellow Michigander who has committed the unpardonable sin of reaching out to help someone. Moore, an Academy Award-winning writer and director of documentary movies, in late January coughed up $5,000 for a Muskegon cultural institution, the Harbor Theater, 1937 Lakeshore.
Judging by some reactions to Moore’s philanthropy, you’d think he’d gone Old Testament wrath of God and killed all firstborns. For his time, trouble and check, the Flint native who lives in Traverse City got blasted on the Muskegon Chronicle Web site.
“Come on, Moore,” one person commented on a Chronicle story about the Harbor, “you are a multimillionaire. You can afford more than that. I am sure that they will show your awful, looney, liberal fiction.”
The same person also chimed in with, “Moore has spent his life telling the world how bad the USA is, and he has made millions from stupid people supporting him. You welcome this type of man with open arms just because of the money he is offering?”

“You Republican whackos have me cracking up,” wrote someone pitching a philosophical tent in the pro-Moore camp. “This man is just offering some help and you got to find something wrong with it? Grow up.”

The Chronicle story reported on Moore adding his five large to around $18,000 raised at Jan. 30 fundraiser held at the art-and-independent movie house. The money has ensured that the Harbor, which had accumulated business debts that would have forced it to close after this week, will remain open for a long time.

What comes with the territory includes people who criticize not only Moore, but those who appreciate him and what he does.
“Oh, yes you are a good liberal, following the standard leftist hand book,” someone piped up on the Chronicle’s site. “You judge us as blind followers of radio hosts and condescendingly calling us uneducated sheep ... Should I go on?
No.
