Breaking down my observations of "conservative" and "liberal"
Edited on Thu Feb-04-10 08:37 AM by SHRED
Sure this is simplistic and there is room for improvement but here goes:

Those to the right side of the political spectrum view "government" as something separate from themselves and something to be reduced and weakened. This is predicated on the belief that government is too powerful and stymies capitalism.
That "government" controls business.

Those to the left side of the political spectrum view "government" as the collective "us", or "we the people", and not as a separate entity but as a vehicle for more citizen involvement. That government is too controlled by big business. That laws and regs protecting everyday citizens have essentially been lobbied away by powerful capitalist interests.
That business controls "government".

1. There is a huge gap in the two sides on social issues: intolerance to
various religions, races, disdain for the poor, education, science (conservatives) and the opposite for progressives.

2. So true

I guess my focus was the business/government relationship and how the two sides view it.
