WTF is happening to Americans?
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 08:43 PM by Randall Flagg
I'm sure most of us have seem the Daily Kos poll that shows that most republicans think that Obama is a Socialist, ought to be impeached (for what???), isn't a natural born citizen and stalks around at night eating the dreams of children.

I mean really? I've been around a while and have never seen a political clime like this. It will take a "super majority" to pass anything. If Obama goes with a bill that the Republicans help craft, they will suddenly be against it. If Obama said that if a vote passed that cancer would be cured, the Republicans would vote against it.

Is Faux news, Rus, Hannity, Beck that influential that it is causing so many to throw their brains in the toilet and go "DUH!" and take to the streets? Or, as a society, has America become SO FUCKING STUPID that they can go like lemmings and destroy our constitution for the corporations?

I ask again: wtf is happening to Americans?

9. Yep
Racism and a viral mix of anti-anything liberal.
For eight years they had their way. We liberals were the pinko-commie America haters just because we saw bushco clearly. As "The emperor with no clothes".

They hate us. And now we outnumber them. And we have what appears to them as a liberal do-gooder as president. And they hate the fact that we can and do say: We told you so.

It was never easy being liberal in the good ol' USA, and now that we are out front they be nippin' at our heels. Get used to it -it ain't gonna get better any time soon.

That pool keeps getting smaller. I think it's down to the die-hards now. There's always that 20 percent or so that support the rethugs no matter what. I think that's about all that is left.

You can rile the base only so much. They comprise maybe 60% of the vote (left and right)

The remainder - Average Joe Voter is concerned with making a buck and being able to go home and watch the Ball Game.

I beg to differ. If you're over 10 years old, you have seen a political clime like this. The GOP thought Bill Clinton ate babies, too, while Hillary was busy murdering Vince Foster and hanging crack pipes on the WH Xmas tree.

Sad to say, but I'm not surprised. This shit happens every time a Democrat gets in the White House. It's fucked, but there it is.

29. No idea
I have no idea how it got this bad. A republican who is sane, rational and puts the best interest of his/her country first is shocking nowadays. most are rational and would cut off their (neighbor's) nose to spite their face.

Democrats have radical ideologues in the party, but they do not make up the majority of members and leadership like the do in the GOP.

No idea. I wish I knew, then maybe something could be done about it.

by the infamous Ronnie Reagan? Shannity, Limbaugh, Palin, McCain, Rove, Cheney, Nixon and the list goes on......that is what happened to America......and now once again the Dems are left to pick up the pieces with obstructionist ignorant Repugs trying to prevent any movement forward. Meanwhile the world is passing us by and laughing their asses off.

34. Many Americans love their country but they don't like it.
They really don't like democracy or freedom. They want their king back.

It's stuck in their genes. Alpha male and all that.

It makes me laugh when pundits say "Congressional approval is down to 20%". Except when they're beating the war drums, congressional approval has almost never been over 50%. "We have the greatest system of government in the world", but most of us don't like it. As the HCR battle proved.

Hence the fondness for Bush at the time. He seemed to be like a king. Doing whatever he wanted to do.

36. The culmination of generations of conditioning.
Between the manipulation in the quality of our education system and the envy advertising is designed to produce in us, the PTB view us as trainable as circus animals who will chase the newest gadget or 'in' brand jeans on command. The pursuit of the appearance of status at any and all costs. I refer to this as being a Pavlovian public, most don't appreciate the term.

There are a variety of other factors, but those I think are the primary mechanisms that have rendered us to such a sorry and incapable state.

Admitting we've been chasing the wrong dog is what I think makes the tension bubble to the surface, the way it is at the moment. The worse things get, the harder it is to deny, yet it makes some of us cling harder to the idea that it wasn't their generation or group that is to blame.

I don't care any more about who did it or how we got here. It's where we are and if we are to take it back and remake it according to the original designers and then apply it in contemporary terms so what it serves are the needs of an independent and self governed society, not a money eating machine that will gobble everything it can until it explodes.

37. Well, if it makes you feel any better
that poll was taken of people that still identify as Republicans.
You're down to the dumbest of the dumb. The people with any ethical or moral standards bailed out long ago. The people that had any ability to think on their own have been gone for months. Now you're down to the worst of the lot. Their base. The people that are proud to be ignorant. And they should be. They're really good at it, and everyone should be good at something.
