This completely sickens me: 9 year old Chinese girl gives birth to baby boy
In north-east China, an unnamed Chinese girl gave birth by Caesarean section to a health baby boy. She was 9 years old. She was bought to a hospital in Changchun when she was eight and a half months pregnant, and gave birth there, a Chinese newspaper reported.

According to reports, local police haven't determined who the father is, but are investigating -- in this province sex with a minor under the age of 14 comes with an automatic rape conviction and jail sentence.

This new mother is among the world's youngest mothers, but not the youngest. The youngest reported mother in the world is Lina Medina of Peru, who was pregnant at five years, eight months old, and gave birth to a normal boy at age six, five months. According to a Time magazine article, Lina's boy grew up perfectly healthy. When the boy was in high school, the doctor who performed Lina's Caesarean reported: "Lina's boy is normal and intelligent. He wants to take up electronics."

1. Lina Medina's son died at age 40 of bone marrow disease back in 1979.
What is interesting about Medina is she didn't have her second child until she was in her late thirties.

2. from a biological standpoint, I find it hard to believe a 5 or 8 year old little girl
has a body producing viable eggs and hormones.

sigh

6. Precocious Puberty
Not really as uncommon as a lot of people think and usually doesn't develop from a known cause, especially in girls. Occasionally it can happen due to a brain tumor or head trauma causing the hypothalamus to fire off early puberty signals.

7. It may be caused by the molestation.
There's a lot of evidence, but no definitive research yet, which suggests that continuous sexual molestation can cause early menarche. You have to remember that a human baby girl is born with all of the eggs she will ever carry, and that all of her reproductive organs are developed at that time. They're simply "off" until puberty. If one of those eggs were released, the mothers age has no impact on its ability to be fertilized.

15. All the eggs a human female ever has are produced
before birth. Now having the right hormone levels to support a pregnancy, that seems hard to believe.

3. Ugh - I hope they find the "father"
And throw his sick ass in jail for a LONG time.

How in the hell could a FIVE YEAR OLD get pregnant? I know some girls enter puberty earlier than others, but FIVE?

4. Five years old!
:wow:

I didn't think girls could conceive at such a young age.

Whoever got them pregnant should be in prison for life without the possibility of parole.

Thanks for the thread, CatWoman.

5. Lina Medina
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 02:57 PM by tonysam
From Wikipedia:

Born in Ticrapo, Peru,<1> Medina was brought to a hospital by her parents at the age of five years due to increasing abdominal size. She was originally thought to have had a tumor, but her doctors determined she was in her seventh month of pregnancy. Dr. Gerardo Lozada took her to Lima, Peru, prior to the surgery to have other specialists confirm that Medina was pregnant.

A month and a half later, on May 14, 1939, she gave birth to a boy by a caesarean section necessitated by her small pelvis. The surgery was performed by Dr. Lozada and Dr. Busalleu, with Dr. Colareta providing anaesthesia. Her case was reported in detail by Dr. Edmundo Escomel in the medical journal La Presse Médicale, including the additional details that her menarche had occurred at eight months of age (or 2 1/2 according to a different article)<1> and that she had prominent breast development by the age of four. By age five, her figure displayed pelvic widening and advanced bone maturation.

And this:

No one has ever established who was the father of Medina’s child, or confirmed she became pregnant after being raped.

One of nine children born to country folk in Ticrapo, an Andean village at an altitude of 7,400 feet in Peru’s poorest province, Medina is believed to be the youngest case of precocious puberty in history, Sandoval said.

He said she had her first period at two-and-a-half, became pregnant aged four years and eight months and that when doctors performed the Caesarean to deliver her baby, they found she already had fully mature sexual organs.

11. It's not unheard of, but I guess there are treatments to suppress
early puberty.

12. Life without possibility of parole?
It's China, right? I'd guess a summary execution would be more likely.

Unless it's a Party big shot. Then, well, never mind.
