Please, the hypocrisy.

Code Pink accomplishes more today than you do posting here.

10. Sure, there are lots of things to do.
I just don't see making a spectacle of oneself as one of those things. Especially when you know it's not going to make a difference.

They accomplish one thing: Advertising to all who see that they earnestly care about something. So they probably feel good about themselves.

Other than that...

11. It's good modeling -- that's what democracy looks like.
Plus, it keeps the people's voice in places where we've been effectively shut out.

Oh, and every now and then, there are good results. Code Pink helped get supplies into Gaza on the anniversary of the war by reaching out to the Egypt's first lady.

Btw, there's nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself. :)

People that held up sings gave us a 40 hour work week and the right to vote for our own state senators.

People that held up signs helped to get farm labor workers a better deal in California.

People that held up signs shut down the WTO at the Battle in Seattle.

Should I go on?

You can't get political leaders to pay any attention to your message if you are invisible to them. You have to be seen first. Why do you think they wear pink? It's not a fashion statement. The eye is drawn to pink.

56. Unfortunately, this may not resonate here.
DU became much more obsessed with the Hollywood types years ago, worshiping the Stewarts, Maddows, and Olbermanns whose jobs really take no courage at all. How much balls does it take to make millions to preach to an audience who 100% agrees with you and breaks into hysterical laughter at your very glance at the camera (Stewart specifically)?

57. I've always felt their interruption of oversight hearings was counterproductive
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 08:52 PM by Hippo_Tron
One hearing I went to that they disrupted was in 2008 where AG Mukasey was being questioned by the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Conyers. The members on the committee (or at least the Democrats) were trying to hold Mukasey accountable for the politicization of the justice department. The Codepink lady who sat next to me chanting "lets get some Justice in the Justice Department" every so often wasn't helping anything as far as I'm concerned.

Presumably if Geithner is answering questions before the Senate Finance Committee, its presumably because they are trying to hold Geithner and the administration accountable. Disrupting an oversight hearing is no way to create more accountability.
