Repetition, my friend, repetition...
The Republicans have successfully laid this financial mess and the huge deficits at the feet of the Democrats. The Democrats have to speak up. They need to educate the people over and over and over again, until they get the message. It is insane that they would let the Republican Party put the blame on President Obama and the Democrats over this present crisis.

Below is a chart that has made the rounds and shows where the deficit and debt comes from. The taxcuts pushed thru by George W Bush and the Republicans is the primary reason we are in this deficit hole. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan played a small part. The Medicare drug program that was passed without paying for it was another culprit. The TARP and stimulus is a temporary addition to the problem but was deemed necessary because of the condition of the economy when the Republicans were last defeated. This debt and crisis should be placed where it belongs - at the feet of the Republican Party.

But, not only do the Republicans want to keep the Bush taxcuts in place, they want more! The Democrats cannot permit this to happen. They need to fight back. Stand up and speak up. Let the people know, over and over, as long as it takes, who is responsible for this mess. Do not submit to the Republican tactics. Otherwise, you may as well pack your bags and go home.

1. I hear you, k.....GOP talking points BECOME conventional wisdom because of repetition
and THAT is why I adhere to the tactic here at DU, but for the truth of the historic record.

Some here choose to mock the approach, but, I'd bet my house they WISH Democratic lawmakers would show up all over news networks repeating the truth about matters at hand in order to defend our positions and the historic record.

2. You're right.
That is why the Republicans are successful. The Democrats need to do the same, especially when they have the facts on their side.

3. The majority party that does nothing about a problem...
...isn't going to gain much traction by pointing fingers at a party who is a little more responsible for it.

4. I disagree...
I think putting out the facts is the first step in doing something about the problem. If the Repubs are successful at pinning the blame on the Democrats, then whatever the Democrats try will be defeated.

6. I wish that chart went back to 2007
and also, TARP and the stimulus should be included with the economic downturn and it needs to be remembered and pointed out that the economic downturn started in 2008 - when Bush was still President.
