Poll question: Who was President of the USA when you were born? (Nixon has been added to the poll)
Edited on Thu Apr-26-07 04:06 PM by WI_DEM
The columns only allow me to go back to FDR. If you were born before FDR please indicate feel free to specify with a response.

Note: I also left out Tricky Dick, so please if you are a "Dick" baby leave a response. Sorry about that.

New Note: No Clinton votes have been cast, so I put Nixon where Clinton was--so all you Tricky Dick babies can now vote for the man. Funny, finally voting for Nixon! Anyway, Clinton babies please post below. Thank you!!

Chronological age is 64, but psychological age varies from 8 to 16 to 30 and sometimes even actual age. The eight year old has been having fun today. :)

The first I remember was Kennedy, especially him getting shot. Johnson was a big part of my childhood, not because of the war, but because of the civil rights legislation.

There are undoubtedly going to be waaaay more votes for Nixon than Clinton--I doubt there are more than a handful of DU'ers 15 and younger. Why not just change the Clinton bar to read "Nixon"?

But most of these things don't , so I'm used to it. Hoover was about to be kicked out by FDR when I was born -- 1930. FDR was a hero to my small family, and to most of Gloucester City, New Jersey. He died in office when I was about to turn fifteen.

66. Hoover for me!
I was born in an anarchist 'commune' in NJ (in 1930). My father, a lifelong Wobbly (IWW) had little use for FDR either, but perhaps for somewhat different reasons. I recall NO "political indoctrination" per se, but a lifelong feeling for Truth, Justice, and Liberty was somehow conveyed to me.

70. Hey, "Doddering old Anarchist":
In the end, among all the leftists, the Anarchists had the clearest vision. Here's what one, David Edelstadt, wrote so prophetically in the late 19th century:

Already I can see our golden future
when the state will be crowned;
Socialist policemen will crowd every corner
From the president on his throne
To the sheriff tightening his rope
-All will be socialists
What do you say to such a happy prospect?

49. Nixon, 1970
But I have very few memories of the Nixon administration. I remember only that due to Vietnam and the draft, I was under the impression that for some reason, at the age of 18, all males were taken off somewhere to be killed. As in euthanized, no fighting chance. Like a Logan's Run scenario or something.

My other memory is that I was downright pissed that The Six Million Dollar Man was preempted by the Watergate hearings. Even at the tender age of 4, I had reason to be mad at Nixon.

President Nixon would never have been president had he lived. I was born when President Eisenhower still had two years to go, but I surely believe that RFK would have been our greatest president and wish he were an option. Unfortunately it appears our system does not allow for truly good and uncorruptable men to ascend to that office.
