I would like to suggest to Reid and Nancy that the next move after the veto be to
give them a 'clean bill' without a dateline and cut the extra spending by 50%. However, the amount of 'supplemental' funding should be reduced by 50% or to 6 months of additional funding. That would then run out in Oct.

2. MSNBC just carried a little of Pelosi and Reid press conference
live. Then they switched to the S.C. primary coverage - I am sooooo tired already of the primaries.

3. Fox News would love that. "Democrats fail to fund troops."
A "dateline" supports the troops by bringing them home.

13. Just to play "devil's advocate" here
but what the hell can the Dems do, that Faux News is not going to slam them for?

I think we are being naive if we think that "if the Dems give the President a bill without timelines, or milestones, then Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are going to send roses to Nancy and Harry".

No matter what the Dems do, they are never going to "please" Faux, or the other wing-nuts. Worrying about what Faux News is going to do is counter-productive.

4. The next bill should be aimed at censuring the Chimp for refusing to fund the troops.

6. That would be giving in to the little pissant f*ckwit's tantrum
I keep wondering about veto override. Is that a possibility here? And is there a possibility that Republics might be interested enough in saving their own skins to join in voting to override?

14. How? If you CUT the funding in half, then in 6 months, we're back here again and will
have given him the same amount of time as the October deadline did to 'prove' his surge is a failure. Then he would have to ask for another 'supplemental' bill and we can then push an immediate withdrawal.

7. Give them a bill that funds the war without strings but just as you ...
hand it to Bush slip in a confession of treason and his resignation on a separate page.

8. Since the Constitution is just 'a piece of paper dammit' the next bill needs
to be a Bill of Attainder.

<snip>
BILL OF ATTAINDER - An act of the legislature by which one or more persons are declared to be attainted, and their property confiscated.

The Constitution of the United States declares that no state shall pass any bill of attainder.

During the revolutionary war bills of attainder and ex post facto acts of confiscation were passed to a wide extent. The evils resulting from them, in times of more cool reflection, were discovered to have far outweighed any imagined good.

http://www.lectlaw.com/def/b098.htm

Pass one of them babies and I bet the bastards in the White House and Republic Party would find some respect for the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

9. Actually, I Really, Really Like That Option
Suspend the timetable but make it impossible to fund without withdrawal.

I have become very worried about the consequences of a veto, especially after reading the recent Krugman article. The public is behind the Dems now, but if Bush plays chicken and the money starts to run out, they will be accused of not funding the troops, their support could disappear in a minute and they could lose control of the process.

This puts the initiative right back in Pelosi's and Reid's hands. Bush has a choice of underfunding or of overfunding with a timetable.
