Air America RIP-- A Guest Post From Former Air America CEO Danny Goldberg
The Real Story Behind The Demise Of Air America-- And Why Progressives Need To Pay Better Attention
-by Danny Goldberg

I think that the New York Times got it exactly wrong this morning in declaring that “the enduring legacy of Air America’s failure is that political media from either side of the aisle is more successful when run as a business instead of a crusade.”

Danny Goldberg -

after you fired Marc Maron and killed Morning Sedition, you sealed the fate of Air America... it just took a while for the rot to completely take hold.

Fuck you!

When Katherine Landfer (sp?) left the Franken Show, Al was forced to explaining his jokes to himself. Katherine was an asset and I trace the start of the downturn of AA to her demise.

And I agree that AA's treatment of Mike Malloy was terrible. I don't know if that happened on Mr. Goldberg's watch, but Shame on them.

People---all of the shows you liked that were cancelled were cancelled because there was no money to give them time to develop and become self sustaining to get them on more sations, to market them etc. That is what happened with Maron,Malloy etc. Telling me "fuck you" may feel good---but I was there for a very short time. There were many other people who succeeded me who could have put these guys back on the air if there were money. I never controlled the company--it was controlled by investors and owners who decided to stop putting money into it because they had expected, naively, that the monied progressive community would support them. Instead--tens of millions go into 30 second spots on cable TV shows that dont reach one tenth as many people as the number who listen to talk radio .Millons are raised form websites form union members etc and the consultant culture directs it to the same narrow places. Half of Americans believe Obama wants death panels. As long as so many people dont even have the facts--all the progressive blogs in the world wont change the political playing field.
