Sigh...So I'm here in the office
And the talk is about American Idol. Now I'm not going to be Mr. Elitist (hell, I watch a ton of sports. So I'm into bread and circuses as well), but I was getting a tad bit frustrated about the conversation concerning the show. Finally, I asked if anyone watched Moyers' "Buying the War." First, "Who's Bill Moyers?" Second, "PBS?" Third, "I didn't watch it James, because you said the magic word, 'PBS'."

I told them I recorded the show on dvd, and that I would burn them a copy. They are all basically Bushbots, and I remember one telling me three years ago that she wouldn't see Michael Moore's movie because he "was a traitor."

It's been three years, and maybe this show could change some minds. It was highly informative, and quite frankly, I had learned a lot about these things through DU. But these people are in the dark, and they need a dose of reality. Am I being too naive? I still think it's important to change minds one at a time. No matter how small some of their minds are.

1. I'll make your office time a little more interesting (I just retired, sort
of bragging here). Go to MSNBC's page for the debates tonight. Submit a question, it may be chosen for tonight. They really went all out, I loved the site. I even sent them a thank you along with another big compliment for KO. Can't hurt to be nice. It's almost Friday, have a good day.

2. can it called willful ignorance or ignorance, people need to
wake up. These people have asleep at the wheel and now we see how if we close our eyes, how these thugs just crept in and stole our government. Unbelieveable, for the greatest democracy we are throwing it away. Sad.

3. You really can't change their minds.
I am inclined to think it's all genetic. It has to do with a basic belief system: it's sort of imprinted on your being. It's either there or it's not: if it's not, no amount of discussion will make a dent.

7. They say I'm too serious
that I need to relax. Perhaps, but I worry about our future. Better yet, our CHILDREN'S future. I feel that this administration pissed it all away (surplus, environment, endless war, etc).

We are in some very serious times, and people need to understand this. I know that everyone has things to do in their personal lives, but they need to wake up. Perhaps if they lose a loved one in war, or if a job is lost, or they can't afford the house payment -- maybe things like these would wake them up. I just don't know, maybe I am a little too alarmist.

10. I don't know but until this affects those who do not want to open their
eyes, they will not change, I hate to say that, but people learn the hard way.

11. That's the only way the far right can "get it"
It has to personally happen to them. The ability to empathize just ain't there.

5. I'm just another cog in the wheel
So I think I'll just give them DVD's as gifts. Maybe a couple of them will watch.

6. This is yet another indication of Bush Fatigue.
Our job of convincing people that Bush is a failure is just about complete. People don't want to hear it any more. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but our job isn't finished.

8. "Buying the War"
was fantastic! I don't know if minds can be changed at this point - there is such a divide - and it's next to impossible to have a civilized, intelligent, open conversation with people of that mindset. I've just started asking them why they haven't enlisted yet. The lack of an intelligent response is always humorous. I've heard everything from "I'm too old" to physical ailments. Then you simply point out to them there are plenty of National Guard in Iraq that are exactly their same age and that bush is re-deploying injured troops right now. I've even offered to drive them to the recruiting station.
