3. My pet debt collectors don't know my phone number now.
I got sick of them telling me I was a bad person because I lost my job.

5. Interesting article - but...
I wonder why the author felt the need to describe the state of the guy's house and his 'dumpy' couch?

I kept waiting for some connection to that and the story.

7. Texas has LOTS of protections for debtors.
ALL states should follow Texas' lead in this regard.

Probably the worst debt collector of all is Patenaude & Felix, which is a debt collection outfit/law firm and will actually file real lawsuits against you in regular court in order to collect an old debt. I went through this with them, and I hired an attorney to write an answer for them. Eventually, the firm backed off, but very recently I started getting a couple of calls from them. The statute of limitations of four years in Nevada for debt collection had already run out, so I didn't bother to answer their phone calls.

10. That's what I've heard,
which is interesting since Texas is as red as they come.

12. I wonder if these consumer protections were written into law in Texas
in order to protect the oil barons who lost their shirts during the bust? I can't believe such protections were provided merely out of the goodness of the lawmakers' hearts.

8. This Made Me Look
at a recent surgical bill that is now in the hands
of a collector. They have added $300 (21.5% of original bill)
to what I actually owe the hospital? WTF?
I might check and see if I have a case.
Like the guy in the article said, I got nothing else to do.

14. You can look up the number on your caller ID
with http://whocalled.us">Who Called Us. Put the phone number in the box & click on Lookup. It's free, & updated as people report who they were contacted by using that number.
