Conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan to wed...

? Getting hitched: Conservative pundit Andrew Sullivan and his partner of three years, artist-actor Aaron Tone. The New York Observer set off a blogger guessing game yesterday when it reported that Sullivan is making it legal with an actor appearing in Studio Theatre's production of "The Pillowman," whom it erroneously ID'd as simply "Eric."

No big mystery: Sullivan, 43, and Tone, 31, have been domestic partners in D.C. for two years, and will marry in Provincetown, Mass., this August. The couple originally planned to wed last year until a "book crisis" postponed the event. "There's no way to pull off a book and a wedding at the same time," Sullivan told us. No word what role their beloved dogs Dusty and Eddy will play in the small ceremony, but they're "definitely" in the wedding party.

1. Sullivan, despite his conservative roots... does have a few
redeeming aspects to his personality, not the least being his acknowledged love for his dogs (and his openess about his sexual orientation). At least he was intelligent enough to see through Bush*--not when he should have but far before any others among the RW ilck.

4. I don't think he considers himself a Repub, more a Libertarian..
but I still really don't understand the seeming juxtaposition in his beliefs. He considers himself Catholic too I believe.

5. Gee........I wonder how many of his Homophobic
gay hating conservative friends show up for this one? That's one of their main issues...."A marriage should be between ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN".

How in the world can Andrew be in a party that goes against what he is about to do and work their asses off to make sure they have NO legal benefits from a marriage like everyone else? It makes no sense.

6. I say Congrats.
Go for it. Sully has his moments, good and bad, but this should be separate from any feeling about his politics.

8. I agree best wishes to the happy couple..
but considering how many conservatives use this as a wedge issue, or get up on a sanctimonious soapbox about it, I don't see how he can possibly separate this from his politics. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I guess he's slightly less hypocritical than the Cheneys.

9. Have you read his blog at all in the past 2+ years?
He's definitely changed and does not carry water for Bush & Cheney or toe the typical conservative line.

11. No, I realize that...
he doesn't consider himself a Republican, and actually cheered the Democrats' takeover, but still, there seem to be some truly stark contrasts in his views. Oh well, I suppose he's no different than most people in that regard. Anyway, I do wish him the best.

10. The real news in not that he's gay and Republican...
... it's that he's openly gay and Republican and attracted to men of legal age.

Sullivan is a roll model for the GOP.
